Too little too late for the Mazda Diesel engine? Got news from Mazda: CX-5 Diesel 2020 is currently undergoing a recertification process, as required by the CARB (California Air Resources Board) every two years. Once they have received final certification for sale, they will announce the schedule for the start of production of the 2020 CX-5 Diesel.

I've been using the first gen. CX5 2.2D since 2011 in Istanbul/Turkey and it is a great car. Even when I had a few problems, Mazda stood by its car and I've always had great service assistance.

@@CarQuestion I am not an expert but what seemed to be a huge engine problem just turned out to be a new tech. fuse that regulated the smart city break system and some other systems. It took Mazda some time to figure out the problem but it got fixed. It started around 70K km. after a very aggressive driving on a long trip from İstanbul to Ankara (aprx 450km). I never had the same problem after the fix and I am at 145K km. now. Very frugal, powerful car. One thing I suggest Mazda and Bose, is to change is the priming (coating) of the front speakers that peels out after a couple of winters and distorts the sound quality. I know many owners had the same problem because of the may videos on youtube about how to fix the problem. Thank you for asking.

I own a CX-5 GT Diesel in Australia no regrets great engine, in Australia we dont have the ad blue stuff so our spec has 140KW with 450NM torque, this engine is available across the whole range unlike North America. Real world economy is 4.8 litres/100 freeway driving and 7.1 litres/100 around town.

Peter Scrace I know a few of us . To be honest before the 2.5 petrol turbo I found the 2.5 underpowered . We traded our 8 year old CX7 diesel which was a great car on the CX5. Sadly Mazda in Australia do a terrible job in selling and promoting the CX5 diesel. All you really need to do is get a diesel on the open road every 2 week or so let it run, get nice and warm and carry out its dpf cycle and they will last for ever .👍

It is only available in the top four trim levels (not the base model). You really get 4.8L/100? Wow, I'll have to try for that next time I go for a freeway drive. I live in country NSW and I'm getting 6.4 combined.

You guys did a great job with this video (JOJO, Power Ups etc) and great Q and A. Thank you!! My opinion, being a dieselhead, is that it would have been ideal 3 years ago when diesel was cheaper than gas. Now that it's more expensive, plus more maintenance with a diesel engine, I would say it is a lost litre. I do applaud Madza for pushing the envelope and do something that few are doing with their engines and cars in general. They are getting back to their Japanese roots and it shows. I bought one in December and love it. The car market is so bad here right now that I got it for less than the retail price of the 2.5. It seems to be heavily detuned for your market (or maybe you have the figures wrong) In Australia it has 186bhp and 330ftlbs. I'm getting 6.4 l/100km real world combined, but I have a light foot. In the real world where we use 2-3,000rpm a lot the torque of this is fantastic, and fun.

@@CarQuestion good question. My own opinion is that people in Australia are not at all confident in our politics or financial situation. The country is going to the dogs in the fast lane (except for the super rich of course) and the last thing they want to do is spend a big chunk of change which they might need just to survive and pay the mortgage. All manufacturers are significantly down except Kia.

I wouldn’t mind a little more of a premium but its not just the engine premium your having to pay for.....its the 3 or 4 trim levels higher since you can only get it in the top trim level. Hi, good reviews, I absolutely love the diagonal test you do, it really shows the capability of a vehicle. Do you think that you could add a door and trunk open and close test in the diagonal test session? So that we could see if the car rigidity is good or not, it matters in long term, the better the rigidity, the less rattle it might have later on, and it’s safer to take off road.

Is cx-5 diesel (only available in full-optional configuration) to be compared with German (more premium and with more diesel choices) cars? Instead of the brands are reported in the description? What do you think? The declared price is better than the germans, but the quality seems to be there. What is lacking in CX-5 to be criticized while the germans are not criticized? Thanks.
@tc65785 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, I think they have missed the boat here with this diesel option for the following reasons: (1) The MSRP is simply set too high for the diesel option. Drop it by about $8000 (CAD) may just give it a new lease in life to survive any more than two model years. (2) The fuel efficiency is sub-par when comparing to modern day gas engines. (see below) Make it into a diesel-hybrid configuration may inject some excitement into the equation! (3) My '18 Outback has, so far, returned a calculated average fuel economy of 8.5L/100km or 27.7 MPG (US). That's day to day driving, nothing special. (4) Best tank was 946 km (588 miles) with 75% highway and 25% city driving. (5) Second best tank was 890 km (553 mi.) with 90% highway driving. Just my two-cents worth!

Assuming this Diesel isn't sold in the United States, what's stopping an American from calling up a Canadian Mazda dealership buying a car and having it shipped to your house?

im miata mike , in the US, the diesel is available and not selling well at all. A quick search of online pricing shows these selling for a $10k discount right now. For $33-34k (US) it’s a great deal since it’s a fully loaded model...even though the gas mileage isn’t fantastic compared to the other two gas models. For low to mid $40k, though, it’s way too expensive (I think)

@@briankaiser694 Not trying to be sexist here, but I see mostly upper middle class females driving these fancy CX-5s especially around where I live. Seems like every other house has Range Rover, Lexus and Mazda. Typically women aren't very car savvy and wouldn't want to play around with Diesel engines. As far as towing goes... It doesn't tow a whole lot either and thinking about the reliability of a Mazda Diesel gives me anxiety! I think this car is better off maybe being sold here in very small quantity maybe 1-2 per dealership. If you trade in your car and get $5000 along with some negotiating $1900 you can probably walk away with one of these for $24,000 which is Toyota RAV4 territory.
