Best Mazda snow test I have seen! As a former Audi A4 Quattro owner and now a Mazda CX5 Signature Turbo owner in western Pa. I have to say that Massage and system is at least the equal to Audi. In fact,I get the sense while driving in snow and ice that Mazda may be slightly more sensitive/reactive to changes in traction. Neither vehicle has ever let me down in winter conditions,reliability ,never boring to drive combined with good looks. Mazda is less expensive to buy and maintain. If you are looking for an all around medium size SUV/crossover you should make it a point to check out a CX5.

My 2021 CX5 turbo can straight up feel like a rwd car if I apply enough gas in the snow. Donuts and drifts are quite easy.

Why not? Both are AWD. The video speaks volumes to the capability of the Mazda.

Because the Subaru is symmetrical all-wheel drive and it's much better system, the Mazda like the other competitors in that same segment are front wheel drive primarily, and when the power is needed it transfers it to the rear wheels, it's not the same system

Hopefully someone comes out with a tuner to let the turbo kick in below 4k rpms and I’ll get this turbo model. By the way I have a 16 cx5 gt with blizzaks for the snow and it is beyond great in the snow.

If you want better traction in deep snow, should you activate or de-activate traction control ?

Deactivate. Every off road snow test I've seen, the driver turns off the assisted driving. Even in the newest Mazdas the button is now labeled as "off road" because you don't want a confused computer turning off traction when it's detecting a wheel spinning, you want all wheels turning as much as possible.

@Victor Labadia So true. Aside from this the Mazda is a supreme vehicle all around. My 2019 CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve is just about a premium class car. If Subaru could build a car as good looking as this I would consider owning one.

@@cruisyguy The big difference with the Subaru and Mazda are their transmissions. Mazda blows Subaru's CVT out of the water with their automatic transmission. Mazda is the way to go hands down!

@@maratamzayan8898 so true, and Subaru's seem to be known for both head gasket and transmission problems. However I do like Subaru's, except their interiors are far inferior, especially when compared to a premium Mazda in the same class.

@M my family owned a mechanic shop for 35 years, up until it just closed in November when my uncle retired. In the past 3 years I've worked there, I've only seen 4 Mazda's. Seen tons of broken Subaru's though...waterpumps, transmissions, head gaskets that leaked. The 4 Mazda's we've seen, 2 were 2016 cx5's, just getting standard work, brakes, oil changes, ect... Then, 2 pre 1995 Miata's, still going strong. Both owners had them since the 90's. They were getting routine maintenance done too. I have a CX5 2017 Grand Touring with AWD. Had it for 3 years and never heard or seen anyone in any of the cx5 Facebook groups complaining about their water pumps going out. However, we changed quite a few Forester water pumps at the shop during my 3 years. Had quite a few 2014-2018 in there getting transmission checked as well. That's a little young of a vehicle to need a new trans... Which on a CVT it's a pain in the ass just checking or flushing the fluid on. Have to pump it into a container with measurements marked on it, just to see check the fluid color and level. All CVT'S gotta use a special pump with different adapters for the different model cars that use CVT's. No ability for the owners to check their own trans fluid. Truthfully, I was very surprised at how often I'd see somewhat new 2016-2018 forester's there with expensive problems.

Dude it blows through snow like it's nothing. After that Dallas snowstorm on February 2021, I've been searching for an SUV that is built for these road conditions. I think I found it. I currently own a Nissan Altima with CVT and I hate it. Never again.

it barelly passed in normal weather. Its AWD is not too good for hard offroad but it still holding its own in segment!

Stock tires are all season, and cannot do what this video shows in this level of snow. I'm pretty sure they are using snow tires. And I suggest a snow tire swap during winters. I suggest Blizzaks.

This car seems to do everything to avoid drifting. Subaru engages rear axle more aggressively. Type not for me.

Why drive so fast ...I would think slower driving is a better test of the AWD as your not using the vehicles momentum..

There were plenty of times where a driver stopped and went from a dead stop. Truthfully, seeing how well they were controlling a vehicle at high speeds with no visible roads was pretty impressive.

Mazda needs to find a way to prevent the front short range radar covered by the snow. When you need it most in bad weather conditions, it doesn't work.

Same thing happens with my Subaru Forester and the sensors are inside at the top middle of the windshield. Snow and any fogging will block it and it disables.

Bullcrap. I can power slide in my 2021 CX5 turbo. I can kick the rear end around in corners if I want to and do donuts. It can feel like a rwd car when I put my foot into the throttle.

It's a predictive AWD instead of a reactive one. The rear tires get more power after the front wheels show the system what is to come.

Actually, Mazda has outperformed Subaru in a few classes of AWD, and funny thing is Subaru has been doing AWD far far longer than Mazda 😂. No CVT in my CX-5 GT AWD 👍🏼. Good luck with that trans...
