Mazda CX-7 Flashing Airbag Light Code 18 Repair PAD failure

How to repair a flashing airbag light with code 18 on Mazda vehicles. This CX-7 Had an intermittent Flashing airbag light displaying a code 18- Passenger Airbag Deactivation Lamp circuit malfunction. The cause was poor solder joints on the PAD lamp circuit board.

Thanks! I'm having the same problem on my '07 CX-7. No problem handling a soldering iron...so should be an easy fix. Edit to add update: Fixed mine easily. When I took it apart and inspected it under a magnifier, I noticed the metal surround lugs were not soldered well to the circuit board. It had two cold solder joints apparently causing the led not to light up. Reflowed the solder on those two lugs and put it back in. Works great now. Saved some $$ thanks to you! Thanks!

I also had same issue (B1884, Passenger air bag deactivation (PAD) indicator circuit open or short to body ground). Was bothering me randomly almost a year, specially in winter. I noticed that if the PAD light didn't turn on when ignition was turned on, pressing the PAD light indicator hard with my thumb and turning ignition on again usually worked. This indicated some kind of contact problem. When that thumb trick didn't workl anymore, I took the info display out and cleaned the connectors between the two electric boards inside, then bend the metal clamps that holds the case together just a little bit to make connection more secure. That did the trick for me, no soldering needed. I got to share this cause this B1884 code gave me lots of headache and I almost took my car to a dealer to fix, would have costed close to a grand where I live (new info display 580€ + labor).

I have the same problem. I've never done soldering so I think I'll go to the scrapyard and get an used display. I have a 2008 Mazda CX-7. Do you guys know which years will be compatible?

Thank you. You just saved me around $70.00 up to $600.00, depending on where you get your parts. Two corners next to the led cracked 20 minutes, and I messed around. Two thumbs 👍 👍 up.

Well done. I had the same issue on my 2007 CX7 but didn't have time to troubleshoot so ended up having the unit replaced at the dealer and the seat sensor recalibrated for about $600CAD.
