Anyone know where to get the Drain and Fill plug replacements? Since these guys often are corroded and strip
@1silverball2 жыл бұрын
Did this today. Last drain and fill was 45,000 miles ago. Jet black and a clump of sludge on the lower drain plug with the magnet. Valvoline 80/90 premium gear oil. The gears are happy again! Nice concise video, well done!

Hey I like the way you do your work, clear, clean, and precise. Keep it up, thanks!
@Airmanmx14 жыл бұрын
Precise!? No, precise is using the proper tools for the steps. Guesstimating it should never be an option. The torque to both the drain and filler plugs is 39.2N.m-53.9N.m (29.0ft.lbs-39.7ft.lbs) so to be exact you put it in the middle of both specs. 46.5N.m or 34.3ft.lbs.

Good helpful video, thank you. Yes the tapered plugs can crack the case if over torqued so care is needed here. (Tapered plugs are also common in transmissions and other gearboxes.) I would not put thread sealant on the end threads because it could contaminate the new fluid -- I would put it only on the last 3-4 threads toward the head of the plug. That's just me. Thanks again. :thumbs:
@BSGAutomotive4 жыл бұрын
I normally put the sealant about two threads in since allot of plugs do no fully bottom out like these ones do. This allows the sealant to fully work on the threads. Most automotive drain plugs are actually NPTF plugs made just for the automotive environment and don't need any sealant but it is still recommended by the manufacturer. Either way a small trace of sealant that may get close to the internal fluids they are sealing will never ever be an issue.

Hello, is that only for AWD vehicles? I own two mazda cx5s one front wheel drive and one AWD. Thank you!

At least the plugs are out in the open. Looks inviting and easy to ace.

Nice work, it has a drain plug that makes the job so much easier, and the diff gets completely drained unlike the PTU.

Whats with the new Mazda gear oil? SG1 hypoid gear oil. Is it different from the regular 80w90 stuff? Do you think I can put full syn 80w90 in a Mazda that requires the SG1 stuff?
@huddarudda22445 жыл бұрын
Hi. This came up in my search for my Mazda CX-9 2010 AWD perhaps it’s the same diff? On AWD vehicles does it have a from and rear diff to do? Or just a rear? Great video. So easy to understand. Good clean process. Well done.
@robsea80885 жыл бұрын
You have a front and rear differential. On front you need 75w-140 fluid. On rear you need 80w-90. He has a video of oh to do it on front as well.
@huddarudda22445 жыл бұрын
Rob Sea really. Makes sense. Can’t believe I didn’t even think of that. Damn. Twice the work 🤪 I’ll try to find the front as well so I know what I’m in for. I wonder why the different fluids for each? Is the front called a Transfer Case?

Maybe you can help, have 2013 mazda cx9, trying to remove coupling from rest of rear differential while still on car. Drive shat and I think all necessary bolts are removed, coupling is stuck fast onto the diff. What am I missing? Thanks.
@re9473 Жыл бұрын
So I have the same exact vehicle and there’s fluid all over on the left side the same side you are currently working on. I’m pretty sure it is differential fluid but it’s only coming out on the left. Side so what could be the issue is literally all over right there where the shaft goes in and where the fill plug is

Engineer 1: "Let's just make the fill and drain plugs the same size so the poor bastards laying on their garage floors changing the diff fluid only need one socket." Engineer 2: "What are you crazy? Why make it simple when you can make it complicated?" Engineer 1: "You're right, what was I thinking?!?"

Hey thank you, im very much. I got a cx9, and I love it, I had it for 4 months now, and wanted to winterize it, but is not sure if I should change the rear differential in preparation for the winter. what do you suggest? How do I know if its time to service the rear differential?
@drnotebook4 жыл бұрын
Only if you have 60,000 miles or more. You should not have to "winterize" a rear differential. You don't want to use lighter weight lubricant, because the differential will overheat.

Hello. I have a mazde cx9 2008 mileage 185 thousand miles. I have replaced all the wheel bearings. I still have the humming, humming under the car. from 70 km / h up you can clearly hear the sound of the f16😁 plane. The mechanic was not looking at the rear bridge. I looked underneath and noticed a wet driveshaft from the left exit of the bridge. There is a slight play when I move the driveshaft up and down. Can this play make noises like a bearing in a wheel? please help.
