Mazda MX5 2007 | Water Leak Found

💧 A very common problem on the MX5 is the screws that hold in the scuttle plate will leak into the passenger footwell and make the carpets wet. As on all convertibles, the drainage for the cabriolet hood can become blocked and overflow into the car. The rear brake light can also leak into the boot, which seems to be the case here. We also found the door membranes leaking, which is an issue on all cars of a certain age.
Solution: We will clean out the drainage gutter for the hood, replace the screw in the scuttle and seal it. The rear brake light will be removed, cleaned up and resealed in place, and the door membranes replaced. Then we will dry the car overnight.

⚡ Electricity and water is a dangerous combination. This is especially the case with electric and hybrid cars, but most modern cars have electronic control units in areas which are prone to water ingress. These are easily damaged and can be expensive to replace.
💥 Areas that need to be accessed to fix water leaks may contain airbags. These are explosive and can be quite sensitive. Tampering with them could lead to serious injury.
☣️ Cars that have been damp for a prolonged period often contain mould, mildew and dangerous bacteria. Mould spores can seriously affect the health of people with asthma, the old, very young, and people with compromised immune systems. Mould should always be taken seriously.

How about the third brake light leak and how do you stop it ?

I believe that we tried to take the unit off to investigate, but we broke it. It happens sometimes, especially with older cars, that parts become brittle, clips rust, and will break. So we replaced the entire unit with a new one which obviously solved the problem. If we had managed to get the old one off in one piece, we probably would have sealed it with some sealant.

We make new ones, but you can buy it as a replacement part. However, these are usually pretty expensive considering it's just a sheet of cellophane.

Just out of a piece of poly ? And if so what type of sealant ? Mine appears to be black and very sticky. And most of all thanks for the reply and a fast reply it was .

@@JAYJAYJAY53 On second thoughts.... I could be wrong. The video shows the inside of a Mazda door with the sheet of cellophane. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmnFgIeVqMikmpo However, I think some of the newer models have a hard plastic membrane. Innotec Adheseal is a good sealant.
