You may also need to put new injector seals in too. My dad and I recently replaced the oil strainer on his 2016 CX5 but a month later he had the same issue. We did some more research and found that these CX5's have faulty copper fuel injector seals which causes the carbon build up when they leak. We had 2 of the injector seals fail. We have replaced the seals with new ones from Mazda, cleaned everything and put another new oil strainer in as the new one had blocked again. The oil pressure light is gone again, we're hoping this time it stays off.

Hi Peter. I’m a bit late to the party here but I have a Mazda 6 just come in. Low oil pressure warning and won’t do more than idle ( no throttle response) for 20 seconds or so then revs drop off like the exhaust is blocked and engine stops. Oil pressure and vacuum pump codes stored. Annoyingly the customer has cleared the fault codes themselves before getting recovered to us. So other faults may be present. Oil cap is carbon / gunked and smells of combustion fumes. My first thought was blocked dpf as this car has had dpf issues recently. Pulling the top temp sensor out of the dpf allowed some rise in engine revs which suggests excessive back pressure but after watching your great video it looks like I need to see if it has failed injector seals with carbon build up and then check the strainer and pump. Thanks for the great info 👍 On another note I saw you using the pp100 power scope. I have been looking at getting a similar one( there are many) But was unsure of quality / durability of these cheaper tools. What are your thoughts on it?
@kennedysgarage32814 күн бұрын
@@tomhoward4445 hi Tom, these Mazdas are quite cool. When the engine ECU see’s no oil pressure it takes throttle/accelerator response away from the driver in order to protect the engine. The most common reason I have seen for this to happen is due to oil pump timing chain failure, which in turn gives no oil pressure whatsoever. look at oil pressure live data to verify & you could pull the sump off in 30 minutes or so just to prove it has failed. Let me know what you find 😉👍👍

What are your thoughts on the power probe you used in the video to test the oil solenoid. Do you still use it. Has it lasted well and still accurate ? I would appreciate your thoughts on it as it looks to be much more capable than a power probe 3 and I would like to get one I just worry about the quality of Chinese tools. Many thanks and keep up the great work. And most of all thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge.

Very interesting Peter and I’m now feeling a bit paranoid as to what pressure I’ve got on the build 🤔🤫 Might stick the Autel on it…learned loads from watching your video on how to use it (assuming mine has similar live data features). The oil shower in the head is one flakey design and the chances of the pin hole’s blocking is high but then that should just cause higher oil pressure. Possibly in the clean out more carbon particles got loosened and made their way to the sump and strainer…if there was some to be seen on the housing it is possible there was lots more gone into the gauze…great fix and I love the fix for tightening that pump pulley bolt…at 120nm it’s a bugger to get off and on!!!

Heya Peter, I really enjoy your videos, keep it up it's good work! Quick question, where do you source your engine parts from? I see you use a lot of FAI Autoparts for Mazda cx-5 2.2, have you had good success with them? I've recently purchased one that I need to do the head gasket on and skim the head. While doing that I was going to throw a timing chain kit & oil pump chain kit at it, strainer, etc. Look forward to hearing from you. Cheers from New Zealand.

P253F & other DTC oil pressure sensor traps use a point system to determine trigger. It's crucial to reset 'learned oil deterioration values' using Forscan or good scan tool. In your case, you had low oil pressures but this is still a factor. Can get P253F 'low pressure.. Engine damage..' warning simply because of limiting this reset.

Good video. I like your deep diving to find the issue. What I get know , there are 2 x rubber rings on 2 pipes from oil pump going upwards, which need to be replace, while replacing oil strainer, as oil pressure can be loose on them. Saying that, my Mazda CX-5 2.2d just having engine swap, as I ignored low oil pressure warnings cause by washer under injector brake and soot blocked oil strainer. Despite changing oil every 4-5k miles with engine flush....it's happened. There should be factory recall for that copper washers to be replaced, as it's common issue, I heared.
@kennedysgarage3281 Жыл бұрын
The copper injector washers are the cause of all the oil issues that these engines suffer from. And most owners think that changing the oil regularly fixes the issue but unfortunately not. If the injector washers are replaced at around 100,000 kms it seems to avoid any oil related problems 😉👍👍👍
