I just flushed the transmission fluid today. I have really hard time to loosen the drain plug bolt, it was stuck. I used penetrating oil, and torch fire, it just won't bulge a little. So, I just took out the fluid oil pan, and make a big mess on the driveway.

FYI for 1999 - 2003 Protege and Protege 5 owners this DO NOT USE Dexron lll this is not the proper transmission oil and It is not the proper viscosity for the transmission! The proper type is Mazda M V or Mazda M 5. Mazda's name for this transmission is FN4A-EL, Ford's name for this transmission is 4F27E, "On Mazda vehicles, this transmission uses Mazda M5 fluid (Mazda part number: 0000-77-112E-01), which is NOT Mercon V or Mercon LV according to Mazda Technical Service Bulletin 0500116. This fluid is made by Idemitsu Kosan (according to the label on the back of the Mazda bottle). Idemitsu sells the equivalent Type-M fluid in the aftermarket. The equivalent Ford fluid is FNR5 (Ford part number: XT-9-QMM5). Moreover, Mazda vehicles have "M V" written on the dipstick handle." Mazda type M5 ATF is not the same fluid as Ford Mercon V or Ford Mercon LV. Mazda type M5 ATF has a greater viscosity than Ford Mercon V and Ford Mercon LV in low temperatures. Mazda type M5 ATF has a greater anti-judder specification than Ford Mercon V and Ford Mercon LV.

IDK, the Mazda factory service manual specifically states Dexron-III is a suitable substitute for M5.

Do you know where I can find a tightening sequence diagram for the tranny pan?
@boughtamiata2 жыл бұрын
Just lightly start off with the four corners, then tighten them again like 1, 3, 4, 2. After that use your best judgement on the rest. I did 3 "circles" around the pan. Probably not needed, but it takes so little time to be safe. The goal here just ensures even pressure so gasket isn't misaligned or twisted if you mashed one bolt down. A visual check will be pretty obvious. It's not as delicate as a valve cover application that has that very thick gasket that can be squished in so many ways and become uneven.

Désolé, mon ami, je ne connais pas bien cette voiture, mais je crois qu’elle pèse un peu moins de 7,5 litres. Vous voulez vérifier avec le bâton de trempage car il peut rester du liquide dans la transmission.

How you get dex 3 when it calls for MV
@boughtamiata3 жыл бұрын
If you watch the video, you'll see I followed the post verbatim. Hard to believe it's been 5 years. Car's still going strong, at 200k. DexIII is considered by some an M-V equivalent, good enough for me. Historically, Mercon and Dex differ for *older* transmissions, GM vs Ford. Guess which was aligned with Mazda in the 90s. The modern fluids today will far exceed whatever the books printed in 2002 and most ATFs will make one fluid covering a good range. It just makes more sense for them and the consumer. You can certainly insist on M-V, I wouldn't hesitate using Dex3 in a pinch vs 20 year old M-V fluid though. Many ATF manufacturers just label bottles Dex/Merc now. They all want your monies.

Hi Sir, I own a Mazda 323 1998 model automatic transmission. i have a problem regarding slipping my transmission while i about to drive forward from the start for about 1 minute but after that it is normal.hope you can help me. thanks!
@boughtamiata7 жыл бұрын
Jovelyn Segarra Hello Jovelyn, a slipping automatic transmission is often due to fluid problems, usually one of 2 problems: 1. The fluid could be low, and adding some in could help. This is a quick fix, if that is your problem. Just add more fluid into the orange capped tube at 9:30 in the video. Fluid really shouldn't drop though, so you could have a leak somewhere and need to add periodically as a quick fix. I would check that first, looking at the dipstick takes 30 seconds. Other possibility: 2. The automatic transmission pump that causes the fluid to circulate isn't working. I would check underneath for leaks first, the oil is reddish in color.

Silly question and just making sure. You poured some new fluid in then took that black hose off and attached a hose to the metal part and drained from there until you say a new transmission fluid come out correct?
@boughtamiata7 жыл бұрын
Cody Burton No silly question when protecting your car, Cody! Yes, fill the transmission fluid first, then flush the remaining fluid from the hose and top it off again, just like you were bleeding the brakes. New fluid will push out the old.

I went with ATP. I never heard of them before, but RockAuto listed it as a premium brand, but any name brand will do; I only avoid Fram. Premiums were $15 vs the $7, so not a lot to argue about. If you haven't tried RockAuto, give it a try. Seriously, lots of choices. Hardest work will be how to get all the parts from one warehouse to get the lowest shipping. Everything all done, MAYBE a dollar or more than like Amazon or others, but the choice and amount of legitimate info is amazing.

What fluid did you use?

Ben Carlson Castrol Transmax Automatic Transmission fluid for Imports, nothing special. Has been working fine, honestly the biggest point is to change it early. I shouldn't have waited so long until the shifts were getting clunky.
