I just used an inflation calculater as well, and I came up with $89000 at 2.54% . Damn! That's a pricy lil'Mazda!!!

$41,000 in 1988??!! That's almost $79,000 in 2019 dollars!! The Porsche 944 was about the same price as the RX-7 convertible... How did Mazda sell any of these??

I'm betting people fell in love w/ the rotor portion of this formula. If we're being honest, none of the RX-7's (sans the FD3S -TT) were particularly quick. But the razor sharp handling, and darn near unlimited revving is a pretty good combo.

why would not, rx7 fc had more power, it was also a gt car, and accompanied with a nice handling

It was pricy but it was a "Factory Custom job" Definitely one of the best engineered / integrated convertible top car if not the best at the time. As far as the driving, my family had both cars. The 944 is long gone. The 1989 RX-7 is now in my driveway. Not quite as punchy as the 944 but more rev happy and 160 HP vs 145 for the Porsche. The RX-7 is definitely the nicer, more comfortable grand tourer and the convertible top made it that much more special.
