I think this grizzled ex-street performer used to have a dancing bear act (thus the trap) until an unfortunate incident ended that career and they turned to maze ratting.

Blast Spawning, Phasing Beacon, Enraging Dance, Emboldening Tar. I don't think I've ever seen a random magic table quite as good as this, though I admit it's rather demanding of the user's imagination. The hell is "phasing beacon?!" At any rate, You may have earned my money good sir. Would love to play a caster in this. A maaaaaaad caster, who claims he has visions which grant him these spells. Visons, granted by a creature from beyond space and time!!

Pssh. Phasing beacon, take your pick: 1) Caster creates a shimmering beacon that phases ghosts from ethereal plane into material one (you live here!) flooding the area with moaning restless spirits. They don't have to be hostile but they are still a very good distraction. 2) Caster creates a beacon next to a flat vertical surface and anyone can phase to the other side of that surface through a beacon for a limited amount of time. 3) Beacon that phases into existense gradually increasing in brightness until it's unbearable to look at. It even may blind those who are still looking at it. As a bonus, this effect is visible from miles if there's no obstruction.

I'd use different dice for the 1d36, the way APBA sports games do.

I bought this the other day after hearing it was good for solo games, and it looks great -- super charming and fun. My only concern for if I use it with my group is I wonder if anyone *wouldn't* want to be a wizard. Who doesn't want random spells? :,v But maybe that's just my own bias speaking. (Also not really a problem. We can just be a bunch of wizards.)

This would actually be a good game for kids. Print a copy for each and let them take turns GMing.

I run campaigns for 5th graders. This game was designed to let them get into GMing quickly and give them all the tools they need to improvise.

Most cool! It's a good hobby for kids. I was in a google hangout playtest of a Lamentations of the Flame Princess module. We got to talking about - as you do - and the subject turned to how the old gaming material was written. The consensus was Gary Gygax didn't give a damn if you knew what a portcullis was or not. if you wanted to know you would have to look it up yourself. We all concurred that a lot of the architectural terms (among other things) were introduced to us through those game books. It's a great way to get curious minds going.

Is there any hard limit on how many items you can wear? Or is it up to common sense? Going by the character sheet, it seems like the slot fits about 4 items.

What would the attack bonus be for this character?

I really wish he had answered this as I had the same question. Based on what he did say, that fighters take the +1 attack bonus, I believe non-fighters would start at +0 instead. This is supported by the level up chart where you have a choice between +1 to your attack bonus, gaining Advantage to a new set of Path skills or unlocking a new spell slot on every odd level. If a pure fighter takes the +1 bonus each time they will end up with a +4 attack bonus at level 7. Conversely, a pure magic user would unlock 4 spell slots and a pure thief would unlock all 4 Paths. So the numbers work out.

I kind of like that there are no set classes; your character’s profession is “adventurer”, or “dungeoneer”.

I would like to see you randomly generate locations then map them out. That would be cool. Also you should make expansions to this. Like a magic one where you can generate a greater variety of types of spells. Like summoning and other things.
