MB C200 back fire and rough idle problem, PLEASE HELP

My MB C200 back fire and sound if it run only on 2 or 3 cylinders although I tested the coil packs and all four plugs fires, please help with a possible cause of the problem

Jan, the only suggestion I can give you is to wait till its completely dark outside, get your car out and start her up. In complete darkness pop your hood, or engine bonnet , and in the dark as she is running look at all your spark plug wires and be sure that you are not seeing and wires sparking out to the engine or any metal components. Sometimes Spark plug wires will look ok but they can have very small cracks that allow voltage loss. At night in the dark with car at an idle and you eyes adjusted to darkness. Just look around where all the wires route from one end to the other. Its free to do and who know's . Good Luck buddy

Change the fuel filter dude, that's been the issue for me loads of times.

Hi yes i found the problem, it was the two coil packs that sit under the cover in the middle of the engine tappet cover, there is two, serve all four plugs, not expensive and now it runs like new

I wish I could help you with this but I don't know a lot about the modern cars with all the electronics.. hope someone will be able to help.

Thank You so much, this one is a difficult one or the problem is right in front of my eyes, I suspect the cam speed sensor is shot or the ECM don't take any information, it might be bad plug wires but I can't find any sign of a spark leak, it get worse virtually with every start, the car have no starting problems or don't die, at this point it sound if run on max 2 cylinders. I'm no auto expert,,,,, Hate to steer you in a wrong direction. Cars are really complicated with all the electrical components.

I found a spark jump yesterday evening in the dark, will check today and correct that, so I believe I found the problem, thanks for watching

Would definitely be checking out the plugs, plug leads and distributor cap.

Thanks for the suggestion, plugs are OK and spark and need to check the leads in the dark for fire jumping, Thanks for your help from Ireland.

Clean your Mass Flow Sensor, there is videos that show how to do it, also clean the screen under your throttle body, try this first, good luck

@@dausfadhil1872 You must now look for a vacuum leak, let your idle and spray small amounts of carb cleaner or engine starting fluid on all vacuum pipes and fittings, there is a lot, if the revs go up you will find the leak there

Yes, it was one of the coil packs situated under the cover where the plugs is, replaced both and problem solved, thanks for watching

surprisingly i did that but it don't fix the problem. currently troubleshooting the other possible causes. Thanks for the response
