This is probably one of the best suspension setup video's I've watched. I love how the focus is on setting it up to the rider. Notice how he glossed over sag/air spring rate and said that will change based on how hard you're pushing the bike. Explaining how he gets balanced and focusing on no compression unless needed to adjust ride high in certain sections of trail is huge. Much much better than the other sag/rebound/compression setup videos.

This kinda contradict what this guy says about HSR at 5:09. Any thought on this?

Great video but I’m still confused due to conflicting information on the net, I’ve Fox 34 Elite 2017, ride all sorts really but try to stay off fire roads. So the Ride Fox website says 15 to 20% for my model (actually they only list 120mm but mines 130) sag tool provided was for 120 as well. Most other videos including this one state 25 - 30% sag. So in my case rode all the black runs at my local trail centre fairly spicy i would say and only used 70% of my suspension all day. Do i ignore the FOX website and go with 30% which may help me use all my suspension or carry on using 15 - 20% and try volume spacers? Surly fox that designed the fork knows best?
@MBRmagazine6 жыл бұрын
Try a slightly lower pressure in the fork and slightly more sag. Don't add volume spacers, as this will only make it harder to use all the travel.

so when he says 'don't use low speed compression unless you have to'. does that mean run no damping, assuming the sag is correct and you have the right amout of volume spacers in? then us LSC to fine tune? if you're still blowing through the travel?
@Windband15 жыл бұрын
Blowing through the travel is a different issue than low speed compression damping. Blowing through the travel is either not enough air pressure, or you need to use more volume spacers. LSC damping is what gives/adds some resistance to slow inputs to the suspension, such as pumping rollers, fork diving when braking, carving a big berm, etc. That's why he says, if you don't need any LSC damping, then don't use it. If your volume spacers are good and the bike is handling well, but maybe your front end is getting too low in a corner, or your rear end is too soft when pedaling, then add some LSC damping (clockwise turns) to give the susp a little more support. Make sense?
@sultanabran15 жыл бұрын
@@Windband1 sorry, i meant HSC to fine tune if blowing through travel. in any case, did some riding on the weekend with the LSC open and maxed out volume spacers with the right sag. still bottoming out shock. so i use HSC and it stopped the bottoming. i have 10% travel remaining on the trail that uses most travel, with jumps and drops. thanks for your comment.
@Windband15 жыл бұрын
@@sultanabran1 Got it. What shock/fork are we talking about? So when you say "blow through the travel" do you mean use all the travel or are you bottoming out often? Regardless I would say at this point, you need more air. Some of the best experts in suspension actually say don't worry about using full travel, set up based on what feels best to you. Sag point is just a ballpark. If you're at maximum spacers and bottoming, you need more air. I would try that first, then if needed, add a little bit of HSC damping. That should get you there! Also remember if you add air, you may need to add a click of rebound damping too.
@sultanabran15 жыл бұрын
@@Windband1 thanks man. cane creek db air inline. running at 11bar (150 psi). blow through travel as in bottoming out. sag is about 30%. i'll experiment with putting hsc to 0 and see how much air i need to stop bottoming out then. however at the moment, it's at just under 30% with hsc at 3/4 turns. it feels really good and has about 10% travel left after doing some decent drops/jumps.

Why do you want slow rebound?
@2025.yamaha.R111 ай бұрын
@@MBRmagazine it feels great and planted makes steering and jumps feel predictable along with wide open bumpy areas I guess I just have to make it fast enough to not lose all that with lots of trial and error bracketing settings ,fast rebound makes the steering feel twitchy for me but makes slow technical sections feel much easier.

RichardChick. Yes, on the flat. He was referring to riding up a hill with it locked out and the front end staying propped up and not sitting in its sag position. So essentially, the fork locked out, creates a higher front end and causes you to lean more forward to put weight on the front. Makes sense to me.

Hi Go For The Win, I've just used a regular bottle cage and fed some zip ties through it. I ran a short section of gear outer inside vertically down the cage though, to give the zip ties something to feed around. Also, there's a rubbery bit of old light mount under the bottle cage to give it some grip.

Genuine question, why is tyre pressure never worked in to the suspension equation? Surely a tyre with more psi will have an impact, especially on rebound?
@MBRmagazine4 жыл бұрын
You're right, it's an absolutely critical part of the equation and needs to be considered as part of the system. And it's not just as simple as pressure: It will depend on the tyre casing, volume, rim width, rider weight, riding style, terrain etc, etc. Very much a huge topic on its own, yet also interwoven with suspension set-up.

Asking why you would want your front end to ride "higher" while climbing is a bit of a misunderstanding of terms I would think. All it does it to keep the bike from diving in situations where you literally do not need much suspension. I would agree with him. I run full open all the time....but I can understand where a bigger out of the saddle climber may need that "dive protection switch" when climbing.....

You've never owned a Cane Creek Coil have you...... Complicated?
@Bonky-wonky7 жыл бұрын
I have a CCDB, fairly straight forward to set up if you ask me. Just get to understand what the knobs are doing first, then get a good middle setting. Fine tune when riding a familiar track: right amount of lsc so the bike is balanced when cornering and pumping, ride some rocks/roots and see if there's any harshness, meaning the hsc is too heavy, see if it does follow the terrain nicely, if not back down the lsr a bit. Do some lippy jumps and see if the bike's either too bucky (too little hsr) or feels lethargic (slightly too much hsc) then pedal for a bit and feel if the bike's bobbing around too much (too little lsr). And don't be put off by the number of clicks, really wide range but this can be narrowed down quite a bit to a useable range of about 7-8 clicks, everything outside that are bs settings that you can easily identify as such if you know how a bike should feel.
