Rekindling is one of those cards that looks like it should be great due to the insane value it generates but sucks because none of that value ever does anything. Fire decks have just never been good enough on their own to make Rekindling busted, and building a bad deck around a great card still leaves you with a bad deck. It's just like Snake Rain.

I do like how if Cimo plays the birds he's boring, if he plays something else he's throwing. Seeing their reactions on this one, I think neither is throwing on this duel. They saw new cards on the set and used them, a common critic the series receives. If they played to win, both Cimo and Gage would be running Mind Master FTK and the games would become an RPS simulator. I for one welcome the start of Yu-Gi-Oh! Progression Jank and hope we can see more silly and based duels like this one. Also Gage please play the Archfiend Marmot in the deck next time, I know it's bad but it would be hilarious to resolve Falling Down at least once.

Honestly rekindling is great in the dual axis firefist builds from back on the day, but dual axis was playing 45 and 50 card decks with rekindling as a 1 or 2 of, with plans to side rekindlings in or out against the particular match up. The thing is, top decking rekindling is usually about the best thing a dual axis firefist deck can do, but if you open it you just lose unless your hand was already going to win with any other good card. Rekindling isn't bad, but it is very mediocre and niche.

From watching every episode of all the various series these two are in, I've determined that while Joe and Alex are on roughly even terms, they are good at different things. Joe is better at making strategies and playing the opening hand but often flounders if the strategy falls apart, relying on lucky top decks to turn things around. Cimo is better at improvising and adapting to the game state but often plays too defensively, which gets him into trouble, especially if he's playing an aggro deck. They're both very good at the game, but I can also understand why they're not top tier tournament players.

I also think he plays opening hands well, and that his aggro style sometimes rewards him like with the Tomato crash for DAD plays, but this greed usually leads him into high risk plays that get easily punished, like when Cimo basically gaslighted him into running a Raiza into a Sakuretsu. Also it's funny to see how easy it's to shake Gage up, like in this episode with the backrow bluffs.

@reydragon25 Yeah, Gage is, in a lot of way, a more extreme version of Joe. He makes a specific strategy, and if it works, great. If it doesn't, he's got nothing else. This, however, doesn't translate into an even skill level, as the enhanced weaknesses make him much easier to read and exploit. He's a paper tiger. Sometimes he gets a surprise win if he's lucky, but if you examine him too deep, you see there's nothing backing up his bluster. If Gage took a crash course in hardening the fundamentals of the game, he'd be so much better. He needs to learn gow to play when his plan doesn't work.
