"Or if you're Irish, communion money" lol yup, that line made my day. It's funny there was a time when the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG cared about the reputation of its card quality that much. I know the OCG has always had better everything, but these days the card quality control over here has declined to comical levels. I'm not saying Konami of America/Europe is Wizards of the Coast bad, but it's a real shame that with the rise of popularity of TCGs in the west the quality seems to be on an inverse trajectory, especially since all of Bandai's games have released the same standard of quality control for their cards as they do in Japan. Least we don't need to deal with the bozos from upper Deck anymore. Crazy story though, this was a great video highlighting some juicy history of the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG. Really hope this one gets some traction, it was very well done. I'm curious who edits these, because I think Carl's the main editor (could be wrong) and I don't see him being able to do such deep dive references while editing for a game he doesn't play.

Could you discuss the conspiracy theory behind The Anime Art of Dark Magician, Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Red-Eyes Black Dragon? The Conspiracy being they made the Millennium Tablet art in conjunction to the UDE lawsuit and lost the rights to the anime artwork. So Konami limits the usage of the anime artwork and often just (LAZILY IMO) use the Millennium Tablet Artwork when it comes to importing those three iconic cards instead of using the obviously more popular artwork from the anime that made the card game itself a cultural phenomena the world over. I haven't found concrete evidence for this theory, it's just wild speculation for trying to quell the nerves whenever DM, BEWD or REBD get reprinted with probably some of their least favorited artwork (Which is just my speculation)

Just translate the cards, run one ban list, release the cards at the same time.

We didn't had "official" Tournament support, nobody knew if there will be any larger tournaments at all (Regionals, Nationals or Worlds) and everyone was like "ok that COULD be interesting" (i was 16 when i started playing the game and me and my friends (one of them was 20 already) were able to host official tournaments with the store (basically the store just let us use the name but everything else like ordering the TP Cards and stuff was in our hands)

I find the quality of wording in Yu-Gi-Oh, and the ability of dancing around the wording by the players impressive, and consider this; if the players study law standards the same way they study their Yu-Gi-Oh cards, they would be amazing lawyers in a court situation. Also, I'm no lawyer in any way, I have collected Yu-Gi-Oh cards since they came out, and played the game before there was an official rule book. However, I see the connection between two lawyer(dullest) and their arguments( the cards they play) and how what they say, and when they say it matters most of all( timing and activation effects) And because of Yu-Gi-Oh, I took a liking to math and gained a better understanding of how "what you say" matters, but "how you say it, and when" matters too. I would take a Yu-Gi-Oh understanding lawyer with knowledge of the law over a lawyer with only knowledge of the law any day. Too bad they don't exist yet😢

You are aware that only the 4Kids dub of Yugioh was marketed as a children’s show. The original Japanese version was not. The Japanese version is a Shonen. Shonen is a demographic term for both manga and anime that primarily targets early to late teen boys between ages 12 and 18. And even former chief-editor of Weekly Shonen Jump Hiroyuki Nakano himself confirmed this in his interviews and even articles written before his position confirms this. Also the Yugioh OCG (Official Card Game) is advertised for ages 12 and up in Japan. And even the back of every pack all say; “対象年齢12才以上” (Translation: “Target age 12 years and older”) Which is a teen rating by their standards. And keep in mind, this was since 1999 when the game was officially released. So understand, Yugioh was never a “children’s show” in Japan. And still isn’t. The only version of Yugioh that was actually intended for children is Rush Duels and the two anime that promote it. Such as Sevens and Go Rush. I suggest you research more on the Japanese version and less on the English dub because you’ve all been lied to by 4Kids. 😂
