This video is recorded for the celebration of the grand opening of GLX Medford Branch on 12/12/2022, while recording the remaining C Branch left unfilmed.
MBTA Green Line is the first city railway line opened in North America. In 1897, the first section from Park Street to Boylston opened to alleviate the traffic of the city. The line then extended in both directions for several time, and eventually formed the B, C, D, E branch (A branch replaced by Route 57) travelling to different west-bound destinations, with the other side ending at Lechmere station in Cambridge.
The Green Line extension project accomplished its first step by closing the original Lechmere Station in the May of 2020, abandoned a section of the older track, and built new routes and stations since then, enabling trains to carry passengers to places further north. On March 21st, 2022, the Union Square Branch opened with a brand-new Lechmere Station and Union Square Station next to the track of Commuter Rail Fitchburg Line. Then on December 12th, the Medford Branch opened alongside the Commuter Rail Lowell Line, extending north-west to East Somerville, Gilman Square, Magoun Square, Ball Square, and Tufts University. On both days, crowds of citizens, railfans, and television media workers gathered to celebrate the "one step forward" that MBTA, as well as the city of Boston, has accomplished.
There are currently 3 types of trolleys running on the MBTA Green Line: Type 7 (Kinki Sharyo, 1986-1988), Type 8 (Hitachi, 1998-2007), and Type 9 (CAF, 2018-2020). While Type 9s are entering both branches, they are running on the D Branch instead of the E, due to lacking of a stop sign for the street-running section.
This E Branch is recorded on Type 8 #3802, which is the last train that left the original Lechmere Station, while the C Branch is recorded on a Type 7. The faces MBTA employees aren’t included in this video.

Impressive and what the E Branch does is actually link two universities within the same line you're actually have Northeastern University towards the Heath Street section then the terminal being Tufts University. for the section towards Northeastern University from Lechmere you would still have the Frank Ogelsby announcement unless replaced.

Yeah I was also hoping that they maintain Frank's announcements at least for the older section, but the sad truth is, they seem to be replacing the entire line with the auto voice, especially the Type-8s. But indeed, it is an absolute good thing that the E connects up Northeastern and Tufts

I got to see some of the original design plans and elevations for the GLX and I understood why it was so overbudget. However that is not what they ended up building. For instance, Lechmere Station (as were all of the stations) were to be this grand glass edifice,. What they built at Lechmere was a newer looking version of Boston's old Central Artery. A shame, but at least the connectivity is a reality.
