As MBT himself said, basically no formatting history has been conclusively solved. No doubt someday someone is going to revisit an old format and build a little community and discover that actually yes, Springans were top tier and everyone just missed them. So it goes.
@Rynjinivar Жыл бұрын
Ehhhh. I played a good chunk of Springans a while back, and the issue with the deck is that it's too fragile, and the payoffs aren't blow-outy enough to make up for that. When your deck is accessing Auroradon to end up on two points of interruption it's pretty yikes. A lot of its strongest cards are reactive, and they're too "fair". They don't play on the opponent's turn at all for the most part. They have like 3 different in-archetype Raigekis but existed in a format where destroying the opponent's cards was minimally impactful, and often detrimental.

I have a friend that has played every single variant of spriggans that has ever existed. It's not a good deck. It has good cards, sure, but it's stopped very easily with both common handtraps and boardbreakers.
@hootclesia Жыл бұрын
@@Rynjinivar Part of this is completely wrong. The part of it being fragile is true, but the deck's payoff was incredibly high when circular was still legal.

The deck can have really great pay-off and with the recent armor cards it can even play after the common boardbreakers, the problem with springs is the inability to go second

Spriggans does have a catastrophic weakness in the fact that it lives and dies by resolving champion sargass. And it's not like it's dead in the water if it can't or anything, but the capabilities of the deck go down dramatically without it.

True, though through playing Springans I've found a very funny habit people make. They tend to negate Merry Maker because they look at her foolish burial effect and panic negate it, only to have a surprised pikachu face when I just don't care about it. XD It's still devastating though yeah, I still think Springans are pretty great, but they need support from other places to shine, Branded and a Mirrojade package are pretty awesome to use as a fallback in Springans and the new Horus support from Phantom Nightmare also fits in nicely with them.

People pretty much refuse to play decks if there is not already a decent player base for them. It's really hard to get correct deck building ratios/combo lines/side board patterns if you are building by yourself with no external resources to reference.

TheDuelLogs Springans pilled me and while I love this deck it's just too fragile. It's basically open Gold Golgonda, one of your 6 to 9 (nice) searchers for Gold Golgonda, or set Rockey and pass. You can set up some nasty boards with disruption for days when it does work though.
@Void-rj3sq Жыл бұрын
I mean, any 2 level 4 also does basically full combo, and with both in-archetype (Kitt) and out of archetype (scrap, SHS) ways to make rank 4s, you have a pretty good amount of starters

I played springans for a bit, it was even better when the superheavy support came out when i discovered wakaushi was a starter by itself without needing gold golgonda. It unfortunately died with scarecrow being banned and i havent found a way to make it good since that banlist.

I think it's telling that most of the comments are talking about cyber stein and SHS and not, like, Exblowrer. Most of the people who picked up the deck picked it up because they heard "soul charge", not because they wanted to actually resolve the second effect of gold golgonda.
@gatocochino5594 Жыл бұрын
Yeah it's almost like exblowrer control wasn't a competitively viable deck in 2021. That's the same year tri-brigade, vw and drytron were meta. Springans power level is more comparable to a 2016 deck like ABC.

As much as I love the deck I must say, the dependency on the field spell is a great weak point Some matchups are straight up unwinnable on the basis of your opponent having consistent access to a way to remove it Playing it alongside rank 4 engines may help by giving you access to sargas without golgonda but that still depends on your opponent not knowing that merrymaker is not their ash target
@thejuggernight1406 Жыл бұрын
it is strong even right now... I get memed on in my discord servers for the only one who plays it. it has flex spots pivots from specific handtraps at would be choke points the main issue is its main combo needs cards in hand you aren't doing anything off of one card but it isn't that big of a deal you set up and you always have the hand size and at the start of the game you obviously do as well. it does one thing it turbos rank 4s and it does it pretty well. it grinds really well it has in engine interaction that can come back every turn it has access to OTKS ways to play around nib and occasionally it just plays around droll. nobody plays it nobody looked at it when it could scythe lock lancea dweller (for a week). even now it can do anything from put out 3 removal spells nib in hand and a raffleisa to just calamity locking. people don't play it... the armored stuff game us ways to beat DRNM and gave us really novel removal we can reuse occasionally as well. I wouldn't call it a super competitive option right now but it does actually have a lot going for it

Currently trying the Springans Time Thief with Mathmech. This deck can do a real 1-card combo and end with multiple disruptions. But it has the same problem with Branded, 1 Ash, or any handtraps, it will ruin the entire strategy. I can make the deck more resistant to the hand traps, but this is far weaker, both the full combo without disruptions or when the opponent drops something. . This deck didn't really have a good recovery if you trying the best build. Because most cards to make this deck better are non-archtype cards. . But this actually had someplace the first time they got new support in OCG.

They also lost to Macro on legs and Nib. SHS? Droll murders them as well. And for the newest format, not only do they have all that shit to content with, but Fire ain't losing to Regulus and a Drident.

@user-yq3bv9rf9b Жыл бұрын
Making decks aren't as easy as just chucking in cards that have synergy. You need alot of knowledge in the game to know which cards these decks need which not alot of players have. Not to mention you have to learn how to play it and deck testing tends to need a day or two to judge how strong the deck is and if the deck is not good enough you're going back to the drawing board and find more cards that actually fits the deck then it cycles and repeat until you find the right cards to finalize your deck so i don't blame people for netdecking because making a new original deck is hard especially if the deck you are making is not meta at all.
@Navelia Жыл бұрын
"Netdecking" has hardly anything to do with this, the thing is that YGO is a very complicated game with a shitload of moving pieces and an even bigger shitload of possible combinations of such pieces. A format's lifespan is never going to be long enough for players to figure out every possible thing that could be done under the sun inside such format's limits, let alone have the time and resources to not only put it to tests in events, but to generalize such and such strategy to the broader playerbase. Standardization, which makes both netdecking and the emergence of a meta possible in the first place is an inevitability and the info at our disposal will always be partial and incomplete from this angle
