Mjolnir locks all special summons (except for artifacts) meaning that since nibiru must special summon itself to board wipe (and isn't an artifact) it doesn't out here once everything pops off.

God I hate the Artifact cards. I read the whole thing three times and still didn’t understand how YOU summoning it locked your opponent until I remembered that when it hits the field it’s effect applies to them, not you. So you (the opponent) summoned it during your turn which locked them (“you”).

The most puzzling to me was actually figuring out that the effect is mandatory and that, somehow, even though the opponent doesn't get to summon an Artifact from GY, they still get locked anyway. I thought the SS from GY had to happen first, before you getting locked, but it's not an "if you do situation", so even if you don't end up summoning from GY, the lock still happens.

I don't think Mjolnir locking is going to be meta but this has a HUGE upside over the other similar locks. It happens on your turn. That means that a lot of the same outs don't work on this as would work on something like Calamity, Ib, or even the Gimmick Puppet lock since you don't get to use quickplays against this. Additionally, your opponent won't have gotten as far into their Deck for outs either which means that this one is a lot more likely to actually work on someone than the other decks doing stuff like this. The deck also has a set gameplan if the lock gets interrupted which is always a nice upside for decks like this. Still though, if you ask me, Kali Yuga is about as easy to set up and still just stronger than this so I wouldn't expect too much from this.

@@astercat49 what are you referring to being 1 trick? This specific line with world legacy, or summoning artifact mjolnir? Summoning mjolnir can be done in other decks as well without world legacy. And would fit the same niche as gimmick puppet lock as a specific endboard option. Otherwise of course summoning mjolnir would be 1 trick since it is describing the one specific trick instead of a deck as a whole. That is like saying gimmick puppet lock in and of itself is 1 trick.

Can someone explain to me how this works? Quinquiry isn't a quick effect so it has to be used on your turn, and Mjolnirs artifact lock reads like its tied to being special summoned on your opponents turn; specifically the part that lets you return an artifact card from the gy, with the 'also' rider. Mjolnir in this combo doesn't appear to have been destroyed from the backrow, only shipped from deck and straight to the opponents side. I'm clearly missing something.

So the mjollnir is being summoned to your opponents field, which means that it was special summoned during the opponents turn, since artifacts are mandatory it doesn't actually have to summon anything to apply the special summon restrictions, also artifacts effs on summon only care about being special summoned, they dont have to be destroyed to be able to summon them

The "if destroyed as backrow; special summon it" and "if special summoned; reborn an artifact and get locked into artifacts" are two separate effects. For the sake of this combo, ignore the first one. Also, because it's being special summoned to your opponent's field, once it hits the field, it compares who's side of the field it's on and who's turn it is (doesn't care who summoned it), and since the now-controller of Mjollnir is not the current turn player, it was "special summoned during your opponent's turn" and the effect goes off.

I was playing knightmare corruptor iblee with my spright/evil twins and I zone locked my friend turn 2. Typically how it goes is if they cant special or link away they have to destroy it by using their battle phase. Long story short, I was able to steal my monster back via monster yoinking effects like spright double cross and then they force end the battle phase and they activate an effect in the hand/spell/ trap which I swiftly respond using my negate bois red or carrot tributing the iblee they tried so hard to get rid of. Most of the time, I was able to lock him again and win my turn. Pretty funny iblee.

While it could only _very_ loosely be called a format, if all you ever play is Artifact mirrors the archetype has a 100% winrate and as such is even beyond Tier 0. :P

I dont understand how this lock works. The cards says: If this card is Special Summoned during your opponent's turn: Target 1 "Artifact" monster in your GY; Special Summon it in Defense Position, also you cannot Special Summon monsters until the end of the next turn, except "Artifact" monsters. So your opponent has to activate this effect, but they have to target an artifact in gy to be able to activate it... Am i missing something???

The effect is mandatory, and doesn't care whether or not you have targets. It'll just resolve without them summoning anything from the GY. Then, because the special summoning restriction is an also, even if the first half of the effect whiffs, the restriction is applied on resolution regardless because it doesn't care whether you summoned anything or not, just that the effect activated.

Why did this work? When you Special Summon Mojllnir during your opponent's turn, the mandatory effect attempts you activate, but cannot because Mojllnir's controller has no "Artifact" monster in their GY. How can the effect still resolve if there's no target at activation?
