MC Mary Kom Refuses to Shake Hands With Nikhat Zareen After Beating Her | The Quint

Mary Kom refused to shake hands or hug Nikhat Zareen after winning the intense bout between the two in the 51kg final of the women's trials for the Indian team that will travel to China in February next year for the Asia/Oceania Olympic qualifiers. There were also alleged foul language that the six-time world champion used against Nikhat when the latter approached her after the result was announced.

The policy is to give selection to the finalists of world championship. Mary Kom didn't enter finals but yet got selection. She got preferential treatment. She shouldn't get angry that someone spoke against it. That shows her arrogance and lack of sportsman spirit.

She said, the boxing authority told her that whoever have won the medal bronze, silver and gold in previous international boxing competition will not fight a trial match. But now they asked her to go through the trial match which is really upsetting her. Another frustrating thing for her is that, her opponent junior boxer is accusing her in front of media of disrespecting because Mary Kom did not hug/hand shake her.

Also as explained by her in this video she said , "they" said that she'd have a direct entry instead of going through trials, hence I think the sports authorities should have been more responsible about making fake promises to her. She must've been frustrated that at this height of her career she isnt taken seriously even now. She has fought her way to the top and she doesnt deserve this useless controversy around her. We all know how we don't like to feel disappointed. That kid Nikhat needs to grow up and prove herself. We never heard of Mary Kom until she made it big and we never heard her complain like a baby through all the prejudices and difficulties she faced. Heck she is mother with 3 kids.Thats a Herculean task alone. She's a human with emotions. Spare her please.
