The last phrase is a tribute to Serge Gainsbourg and his song "J'aurais voulu te dire que je m'en vais". MC Solaar a gardé un phrasé qui lui est propre et c'est quand-même un artiste que je suis content de retrouver !

Mc Solaar is timeless, a real rapper without vulgarity and yet his lyrics are powerful and resonant. First French rapper I liked when I was a teenager. this song came out in 2017
@ameliehohweiller79818 күн бұрын
you got it half-right. the first part is indeed about getting old, but it's not like: "I did my time, okay, bye!". on the contrary he says he doesn't want to be an old man. the bridge is him saying "I'll sell my soul to either god or the devil to get young again". and apparently, judging by the visuals in the clip and the tone of voice he took, the devil it was. and then he his "resurected" or "rejuvenated". :) to me his best song is Solaar Pleure, where he takes us on the journey of his soul after his death.

Personally his song 'Caroline ' ,according to me , is the best one from this great singer ,but lyrics need explanations for a non-french native .
@nox87308 күн бұрын
When he did that, he was approaching his 50's i guess? He started in 1990. Hence the lyrics. At some point, he cites the "Loi de Lavoisier" (Nothing disappears, everything is transformed), which is a famous chemist law i guess. At the very end, he cites a song by Serge Gainsbourg, "je suis venu te dire que je m'en vais" (1973). This guy studied philosophy and languages at university (russian, spanish and english). Although he grew up in a pretty hardcore district near Paris. And no, there is little slang in there. Slang is not really his signature. He uses proper words, and the reason you didn't understand is possibly because many are not everyday ones. You are very much american in your understanding of it. He literally only talking about how he is going to turn 50. This guy went on vacations for years, spending time with his kids. He is french, not american, remember? We don't do the things the same as you do.

He meant i'm old but not done. One of the first rappers in France, from the early 90's Saw you stumble at some point. He wished he was as timeless as the K. That was sarcastic ofc.

MC Solaar tells through this song "Sonotone" the story of a man who is getting old but who wants to find the elixir of youth and youth. It is a parable about today's society. A society that is losing its values and is looking for lust, ease, eternal life, money, pleasures

solaar is a very well know of highy level french language, i don't think there is " slangs" if i undestand the english word the good way solaar have a mastery of french language and mix the words in a strong way! So YES for an american like you even if you speak french solaar is a little too much, he is even too much for many french peoples with low to miggle level in french! In france solaar had some problems with some peoples that called themself " real rapper" because sollar is not of " low birth" he is from a modestly "highter ranked" familly so many rapper despized him because for them he was not of low birth so he didn"t had the right to do rap! ... stupidity will never be erased...

Hello (BONJOUR !) I recommend you to watch this clip of MC Solaar: "CAROLINE" taken from his first album "Qui sème le vent récolte le tempo" in 1991. MC Solaar (Claude M'Barali) is a true modern poet, Influenced by the poetry of Serge Gainsbourg, he plays with words with enormous talent and his lyrics are not aggressive like many of his fellow rappers. He studied literature and philosophy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5Cyi6h7rNajmNE
