+mark davidson I agree with you, and would ALSO add Randy Rhoads to that very short list of incredible and easily identifiable rock guitarists who have incredible vibrato, passion and Classical Modalities/Intervals in their playing. We're not in High School, so no need to get into a pissing contest of who is "better" :) Both are awesome in their own ways !!

Michael's solo at the beginning of "Save Yourself" may be his best ever. I think it's better than Van Halen's "Eruption".
@robertturner5707 жыл бұрын
Schenker never improvised a solo in studio. Every single note, inflection and vibrato was worked out in detail. Now live, he did lots of ad-lib,but it was always brilliant. I've been a fan since his early UFO days. Despite his known personal struggles he has continually improved year after year. Every time I hear him he's better than he was the last time. Unbelievable!

Rôbert Turner what about his work with the scorpion?
@robertturner5707 жыл бұрын
Bruce Brock Frankly, I wish there was a lot more of it. His contributions to Lovedrive hinted at what they might have done together. My guess is there's a creative control issue. Schenker himself has said he felt silly playing Uli Roth soloes during the live shows. As for the very first recordings with Scorpions, Michael hadn't yet found his voice. He was still a teenager! One would have to admit, the Scorpions fared quite well without him.
@stevemann_music7 жыл бұрын
Robert - that's not quite correct with the improvisation in the studio - most of the outro solos were improvised - at least on the Save Yourself album.
@robertturner5707 жыл бұрын
Steve Mann You know, you're probably right. I hadn't thought of the outro solos. But Schenker himself has said that he creates his solos the same way he creates a song, from beginning to end. He's well aware that he's known for his great solos so he gives them a lot of thought. You make a valid point, though. I would like to think that he's cutting loose during those fade-outs.
@Musicman40010076 жыл бұрын
I have to differ with you guys, I met Michael in 1995 at a UFO concert and talked to him for 2 hours. It was unbievable and he personally told me he improvised every solo. Being a guitar player I have always rememberd that and my playing got so much better it was life changing. I asked him about his solos and he said I don’t even remember them the solos that is; so that’s why they sound different every time but always fresh....

+Skrap Post I saw the Black Crowes open for MSG in 1989 at the Newport in Columbus, OH. I hadn't heard of them from Adam at the time. Chris Robinson was drunk, too loud, and slurring his lyrics. I thought the band was good, though, but my buddy and I still booed them. MSG was SUPER LOUD, but good. Had to put napkins in our ears to help mitigate the decibels. Crowes came out on the radio about 6 months later, couldn't fuckin' believe they hit it big. Became a fan on the basis of that first album.

Got a great story...saw them on this tour at Charlie Goodnight's in Raleigh NC on this tour, Black Crows were basically unheard of at that point but anyways after the show managed to get backstage and was in the dressing room when i spotted it, THE flying V, the Gibson that up until that point has played since his UFO days, anyways Bodo and myself are doing shots, Michael was on the bus at that point taking a shower, i said man can i hold that just for like one min? And he said sure man, i almost had a fking heart attack, he says "man of Michael walks in right now he's going to kick mine and your ass" i don't know if he was serious but i proceeded to hand it back, the head stock had been repaired multiple times with all things, drumsticks, but it was such a professional job but i just thought it was crazy, I'm a prof musician (guitarist) myself and Shienker was muy biggest influence so needless to say when walked in and took pictures and talked to the only other girl and me and my friend (there we're only us 3 back there) for like 45 mins it was a memory I've cherished and will continue to the rest of my life🤘🤘

very cool story, i have one, not nearly as awesome, anyway, saw the same tour, black crows opening act..etc....it was at a venue that forbid cameras....like most did back then, anyway, i sneak my 35 mm bulky ass camera in....i manage to get some decent shots, not easy as low light meant slow shutter speed.(no flash obviously) i did not get caught, years later schenker signed an enlarged copy of one of the better shots for me, and took time to admire it, asked where it had been taken. the picture he signed looks almost to a T like the thumbnail for this post, thats why i clicked on, to see if it was filmed at the same place. lol. rock on!
