The lever on top is what mcculloch called the High Speed Mixture Control. Forward it leans it out, backwards it makes the mixture richer

That saw cuts surprisingly well for it age and oversized chain. I couldn't tell if you pumping the oiler or not but that would make it even faster lol. Ive got a 33 and a 35 but they dont run well enough to actually cut. But they are really neat to look at.
@KainKustomGarage7 ай бұрын
Thanks Brother, yeah I've had a couple before this one that didn't run either, so I was pleasantly surprised with this one!😁

Actually the points being easily accessible in an exterior box is an idea that made Kohler the best engine to use for heavier duty equipment. There is a reason why both Gravely and IH Cub Cadet chose Kohler to be their main power plant supplier. The ability to clean and adjust points without need to pull the engine from the machine, then pull it half way apart to adjust spark was genius. And then Onan and I believe Wisconsin did a similar set up as well.

Mine out in the garage is in excellent condition with only a few paint chips. I have owned it for about 40 years and it runs just fine for as long as you can hold onto it.

That is a cool, but weird saw Dan. I'm surprised it has a clutch. I figured it'd be a direct drive. What got me the most is the carburetor. Looks like changing the points out would be a dream but rebuilding that carburetor would be something new to me. If you ever rebuild that carb please do a video cause I'd love to get a look at it and I'm probably not the only one.
@KainKustomGarage7 ай бұрын
Thanks Chris, yeah, someone else commented saying the Carb is aircraft inspired, very interesting....I'm afraid to take it apart, looks complicated 😬

They are cool saws ,, but those carburetors on them can be a nightmare to work on for an inexperienced guy,I have found that out,, watched alot of videos on these,,,,another cool video Dan, old school is cool

That bar angle would make it challenging to noodle split wood with. I guess the idea is to make back notching a tree easier? But I would think dropping a tree with it might be a challenge. But again you have a 1/2" monster chain on an older 3.5 ci engine. So it is like having a lawn boy sized engine which meant a lot of torque in the lower rpm bands. So I could see it being a solid work horse for timber cutting.

Awesome Dan. I hope your spine bone didn't damage when lifting it.. :))) Really cool to see such an old thing still performing.. Surely the speed of the chain is much slower (low rpm plus gearbox). But i'm sure you could run super long bars with its huge torque. Question: Half inches chain? I only know 7/16 and 0.404. 7/16 are not available anymore as far as I know. At least here in Europe. Would you still get a chain for the Mac? Best wishes Marco
