McCulloch Pro Mac, Walbro HDB Carb REBUILD.
This is a how-to on re-assembling the Walbro HDB carburetor that is typically found on the McCulloch Pro Mac 610. One area to really pay attention to, when rebuilding this Walbro carb, is the check valve. This particular check valve on this Walbro HDB carb uses a capillary action versus being a on/off check valve. Make sure the check valve screen is 100% clean. I used an Ultrasonic Cleaner with 'Awesome' detergent, followed by spraying the carb with starting fluid to make sure the carburetor and particularly the check valve is thoroughly clean. A dirty check valve will cause hard starting and also you won't be able to adjust the high side mixture screw on the carburetor for best performance. Also, pay careful attention to the two fuel mixture screws and inspect the fuel mixture screws for damage. This was a used carb I bought off of ebay and the only problem with it was that one of the fuel mixture screws was damaged. Check the holes (fuel passageways) the fuel mixture screws are seated into for blockage. Install a new fuel screen for the fuel inlet to the needle valve and replace the needle valve. The mixture screws are set 1 1/2 turns out from seated as an initial adjustment point. The arm attached to the needle valve is adjusted to be even with the carb body on the Walbro HDB carburetor.
No matter how clean you keep the air filter on the chainsaw and the gas filter, sometimes dirt gets in the carburetor and you need to take the carburetor apart and clean out everything. This all part of typical routine chainsaw maintenance to keep your chainsaw running like new and enabling your chainsaw to start much easier.
The ultrasonic cleaner also works great to clear the chainsaw air filter, gas filter and spark plug.
