Can't beat an old Mac. I use my 125C now and then but I'm more of a 797 guy. I use a 4-30a on a regular basis and a super 6-10 for smaller stuff. large timber I use my 77 which is a 120cc gear drive with 9/16" chain. That's serious torque and it pulls that chain like it's 3/8" . Good to see guys running the old saws besides just sitting on a shelf . I rebuild and run all of my old saws. Very enjoyable hobby indeed.

I agree the old macs are one of a kind. I have some of those old saws, they rip a modern Stihl or a husq all day long.

There's a movie called "Sometimes A Great Notion" from 1970 or '71. It starred Paul Newman, Henry Fonda, Lee Remick, and Richard Jaeckel. Paul Newman was using a McCulloch Super Pro 125 cutting a union boss' table IN HALF! And he was using it to cut a big log that has Richard Jaeckel pinned under it in the water. That was a great movie. That movie has other McCullochs in it. A 797, a Super Pro 81, and I think I saw a blue Homelite Super XL 12 in it, also. Check it out.

wow, amazing machines. I knew very little about them until getting on the channel here, I surprised they didn't over take the I did try still with that kinda power and torque that translates into production. Do you know Buckin what happened to Mac, just phased out like the Homelite, Pioneer/Solo, and the like?
@BuckinBillyRaySmith
@BuckinBillyRaySmith 8 жыл бұрын
ya they sold out to a company ,, then yes they started to be phased out after husky bought the co. that bought mac, but in my opinion mac should of stuck with steel cylinders they never could keep chrome on there stuff ,, killed em I think

@@BuckinBillyRaySmith Hello to all reading out there. Just wondering was there a lot more crome plated saws made in comparison to the steal sleeved saws in general and did this make the sales go down? I'm about ready to buy a older super pro 125 and I don't know yet if it is steal sleeved or not. I should be able to re-ring either saw. Thank goodness these saws where made for the pacific NW type of trees back in the 1970's for people to rebuild on a budget. Very few parts out there left........lol Thanks

My dad has a nice Super Pro 81 too! We put a 28" bar and chain on it just last year! My dad's 77 years old and still cutting wood! We both still want a Super Pro 125! Lol! Are the newer Stihl and Husqvarna's faster than a same sized older McCulloch? Like a 7-10/700 vs. a Husqvarna 372xp? I honestly don't know because all I own is McCulloch!

+John Lincicum hey john ya arnt those macs incredible way a head of there time they are not really known for there chain speed and revs but in saying that my 125 ripps pretty good this was good size wood , I will do a vid showing a modern 372 husky up against the 81 ,, or 850 stay tune and I always reply my friend just might take a day or two and if I don't I have missed it somewhere so pls comment again and say hey buckin, I didn't hear back,, thx so much john

@johnlincicum6390
@johnlincicum6390 8 жыл бұрын
+Buckin' Billy Ray Smith Can you compare 2 saws that are the same size? Like a McCulloch Super Pro 81 vs. another 80 to 82cc saw or a McCulloch Pro Mac 7-10/700 vs. a 70 to 72cc saw, like a 372XP, which I think is 72cc's, but I thought they might be 75cc's.
