Every comment on this clip mentions Larkin's advantage, directly resulting in him keeping the record -- but the people who RUN THE LEAGUE can't figure out a way to either have both records, erase the old one, or at least mention Larkin's head start as a caveat. As neat as this competition and attempt for the record is, it's rather silly. No one in the league even comes close to McDavid with the puck. The record (which should have an asterisk anyways because of the infamous head-start) should be done with the player having to be in possession of the puck for the entire lap.

Mcdavid got his entire lead on MacKinnon at the start. Then the lead stayed the same. I'd guess MacKinnon is faster if they skated in a straight line at a longer distance but as soon as you get your speed up you have to turn again. NHL rinks are to small.

Don Atello You rest your case. since it is only a half track. Corners are tighter and the arc of your turn hoes wider the faster you go. Can't really judge it that way. McDavid gets the 25 ft head start on the big course where he can use his exceptional crossovers. McDavid would have been under 13. Critical thinking is a lost attribute in people.

Larkin lost practically zero velocity from that stumble 3) Using slipping as an excuse for not performing is like saying "I could've done the test faster if there weren't so many hard questions."
