Love your content Rob. Still cant believe you haven't hit 100K subscribers yet. I really think you do a great job for the community to expose all these fraudsters. I like all your videos showing these fraudsters - its such a laugh watching them. Actually this video is now my favourite. You discussing and using an example of grooming is very eye opening and they way you explained it was spot on. Well done mate. With you educating the community you could possibly be preventing these things from happening.

Ok, now, "Yawara" is a very special word for every Brazilian MMA fan. Please look for "Mestre da Morte" (Master of Death), a Brazilian Bullshito Sensei that managed to fool Marco Ruas for a while (he saw through the bullshit pretty quickly). This Master of Death claimed to be a Yawara master, and Yawara was supposed to mean Art of Death in some sort of Native Brazilian language. It's pretty funny stuff. I always thought the guy came up with the word himself, but apparently, it's a well-liked term for Bullshito guys...

My favorite is G Dillman saying, (paraphrasing) "if the tongue is in the wrong position in the mouth, you can't knock them out..." Then WTF good is the technique? If you can block someone's technique by moving your toungue or wiggling your big toes, then their technique sucks! When's the last time you heard, "He blocked Royce Gracie's rear naked choke by moving his tongue to the other side of his mouth."?

Hey, Rob. Great job covering this topic. My son and I are in the Cub Scouts and child safety (including grooming) is covered every year as one of the requirements for advancement. This video has inspired me to see if we can start introducing this topic at the Dojang we train at. I guess it would have to start at the parental leave and branch out from there. I'm going to share this with my Sa Bom Nim and see what we can do. I especially like the manner in which you chose to introduce grooming. That it's also how students and leaders fall into these cult Iike behavers. I've trained with my instructor for nearly 20 years. He left our previous organization about 10 years ago because it had turned into a tournament factory (form, weapons, fighting, get ready for the next tournament ... rinse and repeat). That's fine if you want to just be a sports gym, but we're training in Tang Soo Do, not Taekwondo. My Sa Bom Nim was informed about a Pat McCarthy clinic that was happening nearby and took some of us with him. None of us, including him, had truly been introduced to the concept of bunkai. What an eye-opener. Well, a long story shortened, he caught hell from his head instructor for taking us there (all grown-ass men by the way)and we said peace out. So, great video and keep on educating the masses. Oh ya, my favorite clip .... Hands not meant to hold things well

man, this reminded of a family I know (I practiced TKD)... and this guy was a 4th degree black belt, lets call him Y. he got a female student, whose dad gets into class too... the father was just having fun/losing weight/supporting his daughter, but the daughter starts going up to black belt... Y convinced the father they should open a dojang "together", then the girl was the one always teaching, while Y just gave orders... and of course, soon the place got raided by police because Y had financial issues elsewhere and they embargoed everything... the daughter now has her own place, she's legit. howevber, I'll always be amazed how the guy groomed THE FATHER. you would see the guy following Y around like a little puppy; he even bought the same car as the other guy

Most seminars are straight forward sport-karate/contact-sport things, but occasionally the weird and wacky pop up....when an un-compliant/resistance "me" volunteers, I usually get the "it's because your are not Japanese and don't understand/feel true budo" remark....to which I usually reply "if it doesn't work, it doesn't work!" Came across a Daito-ryu school at some point a long time ago. While it looked goofy in this video, the sensei in the school I visited tried to make sense about the practicality of the techniques with the school's curriculum. He was very aware of the jedi-esque things the other teachers were doing and it's embarrassing. I think having a sensei who can see that art past the mystical BS with some skepticism might be some saving grace of it. Just take out the chi power stuff and I think we'd see how the art really is for itself.

What I can't manage to wrap my head around is this: how do these guys start out with their own gym? Let's say Yoshi is new in town and opens his business. The first students need to be indoctrinated before they can serve as compliant dummies to draw in more customers. How does he do it? Is there some literature on this specific topic? I mean he doesn't just trick people into buying a sh*t product. He convinces people that he has magic powers and they willingly play along. That's on another level.

Not sure in this specific case, but in cults it's quite commom for them to open a new place with already a lot of "helpers" or "assistants" or whatever they call it. So those handful of "Medium-Low Rank" people show what is supposed to happen, and them they say something like "you cant feel it unless you practice more" or some bullshit like it to start the brainwash.
@onkelkarlskleinewelt9980

That's also the question always spinning around in my head. The clue for an answer might be this: In most martial arts or fighting systems you first have to learn basic moves and skills. Usually you don't start with sparring as an absolute beginner. To learn and practice your "opponent" / partner has to be cooperative and vice versa. If your sensei, sifu, master demonstrates a technique with you as opponent, you will be extremely cooperative, usually. After some years of training like that, you will be ripe for bullshido and willing to do all the stunt-moves, if the master tells you so. And I guess these sifus of clown-fu do tell you verbally or non verbally (or you already know) what has to happen, what they expect you to do.
@WatchMysh
@WatchMysh 2 жыл бұрын
@@onkelkarlskleinewelt9980 Yeah could be. But what's with the ultra absurd moves like screaming me KO? :D Or do you suggest they don't start with that right away but rather cook you slowly until you're softened up enough to fully cooperate / believe this stuff? Could also be... But still we don't know the "how" in detail. What and when they do something, what they tell you etc... people like this must be highly manipulative.
@onkelkarlskleinewelt9980
@onkelkarlskleinewelt9980 2 жыл бұрын
@@WatchMysh I really don't think they start from the beginning with their secret jedi-stuff. Dillman himself was a legit karate-guy until he turned into some supernatural bloblike chi-monster-thing. My guess is, that they start some more or less serious training and with time lead you to their own universe. It won't work with everyone. Perhaps most of the students quit, as soon they realize it's Bullshido. But some might fall into it. And these are the ones you notice. I think there is some good use of psychology. Think about this "ball figure" in Tai Chi Chuan. Most people will feel some kind of sensation between their hands. Neuroscience says, that is simpley some kind of misperception generated by the brain. You pretend to hold a ball, so your brain thinks it has to provide you with the proper feeling. But your "master" tells you that is the chi power you can generate and so on. Some people want to believe and got lost in their confirmation bias. Even if there is proof of "it doesn't work" the believers will find explanations enough to not have to change there view of the world. One thought to add. Nearly all vids you can see on YT showing such weird stuff are purposly taped demonstrations, not to say marketing. Apart of some real mental ill people, I think all of the Hypergreatgrandmasters know, that most people looking the vids will burst out in laughter. But there may be 1% who thinks, that's cool stuff and are willing to give money and "enter the dojo".

@thefaboo
@thefaboo 2 жыл бұрын
@Disciple1Actual I don't mind at all! I first heard Aikido described as "the art of throwing and falling" which sounded pretty awesome. This was 20 years ago, and Steven Seagall wasn't yet a joke, and doing the martial art he purportedly did seemed cool too. I'd done ~7 years of Taekwondo prior to getting serious about Aikido, and while it *is* fun, I became frustrated with three major things: 1. There's techniques for dealing with punches, but punching isn't itself in the curriculum. So no one could punch for shit - made the techniques easier to perform though! 2. No response to kicks at all. One of the dojo's I trained at made some hay about controlling the opponent's balance so they couldn't kick, but it only applied in clinching range, if it worked at all. 3. Nearly all of the techniques are either complex or responses to esoteric situations. Attacked from behind while sitting on the floor and need to protect your sword? There's a technique for that. Being punched in the face? Step to the side, grab their wrist (har har), step back-to-back, draw their balance down and across your body, turn, then fold their arm over itself into a wrist lock. I trained at a dojo for a while that encouraged experimentation and live sparring, and after you simplify and wittle down the techniques to what works okay, what we ended up with was more like bad Judo than Aikido. These days I train with an old-school BJJ and JKD guy who teaches out of his basement. No belts and no international affiliations, just an old dude with decades of experience training pros and law enforcement, telling you how to get hit less.

@@thefaboo thanks for taking the time to respond. Very informative! I did hapkido when I was a kid 20 years ago. It was exactly how you describe your aikido live sparring experience; bad judo, except mine was also with some very wonky punches and flashy ninja kicks. I was very delusional about my ability to actually fight. I currently train old school BJJ as well, under one of Fabio Santos’ black belts. I also have trained in wrestling and some Muay Thai. Glad to be doing actual, effective martial arts these days.

@@RangerRetribution I started getting interested in wrestling right as the plague hit. I'd love to give it a go... once I'm comfortable being at hugging distance with strangers again 😅 I've done some formal BJJ classes too, and a wrestling match looks very different from a BJJ match so it would be interesting to get a real feeling for the difference.

Yoshihito Shibata Sensei began Karate at the age of seven. Throughout high school, he enjoyed Sumo and Judo. In 1985, he met his teacher Takuya Ogura. Yoshi Sensei lived with him for seven years and studied his style of Ogura-ryu Yawara. Ogura had learned Judo from Uchida Sensei, Kyuzo Mifune style, and Yamada Yaju , Nagaoka Hidekazu style. For five years Yoshi Sensei trained with Seigo Okamoto Soshi in Daitoryu Aiki Jujutsu Roppokai. Okamoto’s teacher was Kodo Horikawa Sensei. Yoshi Sensei began studying Aikido in 1989. He returned to Japan for several years to deepen his Aikido practice and train with several Aikido masters whilst also studying Seitei Iaido and Shindo Muso-ryu Jodo. Yoshi has been practicing a way of life called “KANNAGARA” in Japanese, since 1988. His practice is to unify spirit, mind and body together, to harmonize with the flow of Nature. His daily practices are Aikido, Aiki Jujutsu, Japanese Calligraphy, and Nature Photography. He currently teaches Aikido and Self-Defense at the University of California Santa Cruz. This guy on the video is not a fake. He is very good. There is something called Aiki... to blend together. This is not a demonstration of application. It is a demonstration of Aiki. Aiki is not fantasy. Application in a real fight is a different game. Yoshihito also knows karate, like Aikido it is part of Budo. Same goes for aikijujitsu, Judo, Jujitsu, ninjutsu, etc.

Yes, the sensei's bullshit technique and the student's bullshit reaction are " blended" together to create the faint illusion of something "real". This is why a cooperative subservient "assailant" is required to demonstrate the "technique" properly.

I think a lot of people in these situations are in love with Japanese culture and study certain arts because they are easy (aikido/ninjitsu) and once they experience this, they are in love with it all. They also probably watch anime

I am not calling you out by any means, but I would love to see you go to one of these Judont/Hai Karate schools. Because of your skill level, it would just make for great entertainment. I've been seeing these phonies since the early 70’s and their schools always seem to have cult following. I was very familiar with Jeff Doucet and he was not liked by fellow Black Belts in Louisiana. He was straight up weird.

My favorite video is the infomercial for "Regular Ass Hands." Do the people in these videos actually believe these techniques are working on them? I've always wondered this. Does the guy being pushed around with chi, actually believe he's being pushed, or is it all an act?
