Econ 101 says that if you have to keep your margins in an increasing labor cost environment, and labor is the single biggest cost to any enterprise, you either: a. Shut down operations, b. Streamline the labor force (layoffs), c. Increase cost of goods and services. None of these options are remotely palatable especially in the inflationary environment we are facing. When I was 18, I made $5.15 an hour at Del Taco as a manager. I'm 45 now. It was a job as a kid to make a few bucks and have a first job. It's not a money maker. Minimum wage is for minimum work. Nowadays, and since covid hit, not once has any fast food restaurant got our order correct. Covid hit what 4 years ago. They still can't get the orders right today. I've now given up on fast food. I keep food in my car for long trips so I don't have to stop at a fast food restaurant. Oh and I've lived in California my entire life, this $20 is just killing restaurants. A lot of people I know have already moved out of California in these last years because of Governor nuisance.

@@joeanthony8087 thats the issue Businesses want it to be a part time/entry levrl job but require the number of people seen in full time career jobs to function properly. 30% of the jobs in this country are minimum wage. Yet the number of people who are aiming for an entry level/part time job (high schoolers, college students, recent graduates) only make up around 15-20% of the population. Its simply unsustainable and may lead to the service industry collapsing in the future. We're already seeing the effects of this. Many minimum wage jobs in major cities are dealing with labor shortages, since these jobs do not pay enough to live on. Plus, with the largest section of the workforce (baby boomers) retiring, there is a LOT of higher paying positions opening up. Even states with low minimum wages are seeing most minimum wage jobs in cities pay far higher than legally required just to get the minimum staff required to function.

0:34 it’s funny that if all the measures he mentions to make his franchises work with a $20 an hour minimum wage he never mentions reducing his or his family members salaries.

In 1960, min wage was 1 dollars and average home price was 12000 . Now federal minimum wage is 7.5 but home price is 335000 . How did McDonald’s used to pay a fair wage in 1960 ? Simply because they did not make 8 billion dollars profit a year.
