The one in Des Plaines is gone now- the flooding destroyed it. But I live there and the place is still remembered as the home of the first McDonald's (well, the third one). When the replica was torn down in 2020, some people were very upset.

And requirement for cleanliness continues to today, even overseas. When I was in Egypt, my guide told us that if we got hungry and he wasn't there to guide us, go to McDonald's, because the cleanliness and health regulations were the same as in the U.S. Didn't go to McDonald's in Egypt, but it was comforting to know that a safe place was guaranteed, should we need it.

I go to the McDonalds in Downey California the only one left that looks like the McDonald's from the 1950s - 60s.

I remember in 1975, on the 20th anniversary, McDonald's was selling hamburgers for 15 cents, cheeseburgers for 20 cents. The lines were long, but nobody seemed to mind waiting.

They opened one in Libertyville Illinois-1958, I remember it like yesterday. I got a postcard in the mail for a free hamburger, couldn’t believe it. I still remember the green cement sidewalks, couldn’t figure out how they did that.

A fascinating tale about the world's most famous fast food chain, McDonald's. How things have changed. ☺️

Ate their food back in the day, but wouldn't touch it now.

Aside from the one already mentioned in Downey CA that remains a classic Golden Arches, there is one more like it in San Jose CA on Almaden Road. It was eventually declared a landmark - much to the chagrin of the city council at the time! Hahaha!

From watching other shows about this it was not necessarily an amicable sale to Ray Kroc. The McDonald Brothers were more or less forced out. Ray Kroc wS somewhat ruthless. I remember doing a paper on this in college I believe. My grandkids love their chicken nuggets and we buy lots of happy meals, but I'm not a fan of their food

When I was a kid, we could get 5 cheeseburgers AND change back from our dollar.

The food definitely took a drop in quality when they went to pre-cooking and using warming trays. Half the time the food is barely warm, what a disappointment. It truly would be a disappointment to the McDonald's brothers.

Now Mc Donald's is one of the worst or maybe the worst place to eat.

I worked at McD's. Worse job I ever had. Never liked their burgers either. Whataburger far exceeds them.
