Christian Terrill Exactly, but of course the agricultural industry isn't going to tell you that, they just want to sell you the cheapest crap possible and hope you won't notice. That isn't to say that vegetable oil itself is bad for you, but that cheap shit they sell is toxic. Unfortunately, the good stuff is expensive, but they designed it that way.

The chicken was probably crispy when they put it in the box, the heat form the chicken steamed the breading and made it soft. The only way they breading could remain crispy after being put in the box was if the chicken was cold. I've seen the same thing happen at a family gathering where someone made a big platter of fried chicken. The top pieces are crispy and the rest is soft and sometimes even soggy. The best time to buy fast food is right in the middle of lunch as everything is fresh, hot, and crispy.

It's because these aren't all white meat. There is fat, grisle, fillers, etc. in them. Not like they were before they were discontinued several years ago. Back then, it was 100% white meat. They were good even cold or warmed up. These are made basically like large nuggets. Which also taste horrible when they get cold or are rewarmed.

I make my own buttermilk tenders. Buy the frozen chicken tenders at Aldi's, marinate them in REAL buttermilk for a few hours (3 or 4), then dip the tenders in beer batter made with Bisquik. Fry in hot oil until brown and crispy (usually around 10 minutes), drain, sprinkle with onion powder and a little salt.

Larry, It has been at least 10 years since I have been to a McD's. The tenders looked real. The fries looked awful and I use to like their fries. Didn't know they had so many sauces. Great review.

I used to be a chicken tender, and let me tell ya, it isn't fun when you are dealing with 27,500 of 'em. I walked broiler houses in Maryland for my mom and stepfather back in '88 and '89 while visiting them on the Eastern Shore. Saw, smelled, and felt things that I will never, ever forget, as much as I might want to. I couldn't eat chicken at all for a couple of years after that.

About McDonald's fries, I am so glad that someone has brought the issue with their flavor back into the realm of public discussion .There are a lot of reasons why a lot of foods I once loved and carved have become pale shadows of their former greatness. A lot of times, things that a corporation does, falls under the ever watchful eye of the "bean counters." Most of the time, the changes are barely perceptible (e.g. the smaller burger party on burgers, or the use of cheaper ingredients from third world countries. The absolutely heartbreaking McDonald's French fry story is NOT one of these. For many years, the cattle industry sold off the cow fat it produced by the megaton as part of maximising the food value of every hoof. Life was wonderful. McDonald's only had two sizes of fries. The large came in a cardboard something-or-other like the packaging used on all sizes of fries today. However, if you ordered a "regular" fries, they were served piping hot in a little paper bag that was reminiscent of the Halloween "grab bags" that your cheap neighbors put really cheap candy in ( usually a half dozen pieces of,very stale candy corn, a Dum Dum lollipop, and a couple of pieces of bubble-gum so stale, you could put it in a shotgun shell, and takedown a bear with it.) But I digress. One of the most delightful sites I recall, was the way the beef tallow the fries were cooked in caused the serving bag they came in to become almost translucent enough to read through. The flavor was so rich, the aroma so delicious, you could quite literally imagine anything on the McDonald's sandwich menu while you were eating those fries and it was as if the Star TREK transporter had beamed it into your gibbering pie hole. So even if you couldn't afford a burger with your fries (as many poorer kids like myself couldn't) you could order a regular fries and be every bit as satisfied as the kids who could afford buy TWO big Macs, a large fries and a milkshake. My final rebuff of the switch to vegetable oil frying, came when the renowned "French Chef" Julia Child, while discussing fast food flavor with one of McDonald's senior executives lamented the adulteration of what she described as "the best French fries in the world!" to a product that was "Mediocre at BEST!"

I'm so glad you brought out the fact that the cooked-in-beef-tallow fries were the BEST thing ever to happen to a potato. The vegetable oil version NEVER CAME CLOSE to the flavor of the tallow version. I recall that the original fries came in a little paper bag that would become nearly transparent as the tallow grease soaked the bag. Sigh.....

I work at McDonalds and can tell you that the new tenders are the best tasting chicken on offer in our store. The 'tenders' are real raw chicken strips. They go into the fryer thawed and come out nice and crispy. You drove home with them in a closed box. Hence, they got soggy. Fast food is mean to be eaten right away and not taken home. I stand by these tenders and are one of the few things I eat at work. Maybe it is because I don't drink soda nor eat much fried food, but I find them to be sweet tasting instead of salty like the buttermilk chicken sandwich filet ( which was the only item I ate before the tenders ). Sauce selection depends on the store. A franchise may or may not order every sauce...and more likely than not only orders the sauces the folks who eat there ask for most as Food Cost and shelf space is a HUGE priority .

I tried them last week and they were an improvement over their old Chicken Select Strips. But they are still super-processed strips (probably made by Tyson foods) and no match for Raising Cane's or other Southern chicken strip chains like Zaxbys. And MickyD's Signature Sauce is a blander copy of Cane's Sauce that doesn't have that strong pepper bite that I love.

Yeah, I've had this meal several times, and here's the verdict: you have to eat the fries while they're hot because that's when they're at their best (although I still wouldn't call them as good as Mashed makes them out to be). You waited till they got cold, so you had cold fries.

Thanks for posting another great video! I made the mistake of buying these the other day instead of driving to the next town over to get Raising Cane's (who their signature sauce is based on). Never again! Cane's is 1000% higher quality and tastier and comes with coleslaw and Texas toast.

Very good info. Yea, no Fast Food is as good as it was in 60's. Funny have seen old McD footage showing some guy peeling potatoes. Ha. But that's really how things use to be when I was growing up in the 50's & 60's. At least the imside of the chicken tenders resemble chicken. What they sell for nuggets look like Styrofoam or when you break'em open. Good info on the nutritional rundown. Not many FF places left with quality nutritious food. (Not that it ever was). I just want it to be what it is supposed to be. My son showed me a french fry he found under the seat from 6 mos earlier, and it still looked the same, inly dry and hard. Kinda scary. Great job.

Does anybody know how these compare to the old "Chicken Selects?" I actually liked those.

The first time I even had the tenders (when they were first released nationwide). They were absolutely delicious. They were crispy and super juicy. Subsequent visits though had tenders that were a lot lower in quality.

I love the buffalo and sweet chili I think they discontinued the sweet chili 😞 I tried the tenders tho and I really liked them .
