I feel Mcfarlane figures move well enough. Yes, they can use some adjustments with a little better articulation, but we are also getting mostly new sculpts with every figure. Marvel legends gets boring after you get a handful of figures that all look alike with the same body mold. Legends figures also don't all articulate the best and have a lot of gummy figures that can't stand. I enjoy Marvel and DC the same but enjoy collecting Mcfarlane a lot more these days. Legends seems to be greedy skyrocketing their prices with no added value.
@blankisfornerds Жыл бұрын
thats exactly my feelings. i do wish mcfarlane figures moved a bit more, but comparing how they were in 2020 to now, theyve made great improvements to it, so we could get even better articulation in the future. i used to collect a ton of marvel legends but after the mighty price hikes and the copious amount of reuse, ive really taken a step back and only gotten ones i actually want. meanwhile dc multiverse has had me hooked recently. the mostly all unique sculpts, a wider range of characters now, and the more value for what you pay for is just so much more appealing. both lines are due for major improvements, but id say dc multiverse slightly edges out marvel legends for me.

I think Marvel legends is better for now, cause some mcfarlane figures feels like the one who made the figure is lazy to articulate it and they are not easy to pose. The design is really good from other marvel legends figures but for now they need to articulate it better like they did with dc icons but a different body mold.

At the same time, I also picked up the retro carded Apocalypse and feel equally enamored with the figure. If you put a gun to my mother's head and told me I had to drop one of the lines. It would be Marvel Legends simply on the price point. However, if I have to pick a best figure for the past year, it would have to go to the Marvel Select Beta Ray Bill.

I personally collect Marvel Legends more than I do McFarlane DC Multiverse, but I'm warming up to DC Multiverse figures lately. I like them for the custom potential and it's articulation scheme over most Marvel Legends (I'm personally not a fan of swivel waists) and even though McFarlane figures scale pretty tall, some figures can fit the 1/12th scale collection if it works for the character like Martian Manhunter or nearly all of the monster-like characters they've done so far. As much as I like the intricate detail, I personally like some of their "basic" figures as of lately. The Flashpoint Project Superman is just so fun to play with and other figures like Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, Deadman, and the upcoming Flashpoint Flash look incredible. I hope that they can expand on that down the line. This video is more in depth than I expected, you addressed a lot of points that I didn't think to consider. Incredible work 👌

I'm a Marvel Legends guy. Marvel Legends have better variety in their character selection and good articulation. Say what you will about early Hasbro ML, but nowadays the figures have great sculpts. I especially like how the movie figures are so well sculpted. The comic figures too have great posability and the pinless joints have really made them look better. I've gotten a few DC Multiverse figures. DC Multiverse has great sculpts, but the scaling is so inconsistent, articulation isn't the best, and their no gun policy really drew away from their figures like from The Suicide Squad. We also get WAAAAY too many Batman figures. Plus, the figures don't have a very consistent style. ML at least has two styles of comic and movie (cartoon ML could also mix with comic), but Multiverse tries to do too much at once with styles from Justice League Unlimited, movies, comics, video games, etc., which could be good for buyers who want that variety, but to me it gets confusing.

Jada and NECA are significantly better than Hasbro and McFarlane. Hasbro has become a greedy company hellbent on reusing the same molds and include limited accessories to cut costs while bumping up the overall price of their figures when most of their figures are not worth the price increase. McFarlane figures offer abysmally poor articulation, fairly limited accessories, poor variety overall (the line is comprised of mostly Batman figures), pretty poor headsculpts at times, and numerous other issues fanboys just refuse to acknowledge. McFarlane figures feel more like statues with some articulation. Most McFarlane figures have torsos that can barely move which severely hinders posing and using ball joints for wrists and ankles just isn't a good idea, especially for ankles. The line could be so much better. Jada and NECA, on the other hand, seem to actually care and are constantly pumping out fairly solid figures. NECA figures also suffer from really poor articulation, but they make up for it with far superior sculpts and a huge variety of accessories. I'd much rather see NECA make another Batman figure and I know Jada would make far better Marvel figures than Hasbro.

I used to be a die hard legends fan (I guess I still am but slightly less so) but McFarlane gets most of my money now. You get the best bang for your buck when it comes to McFarlane. With marvel legends you get the same smooth body molds with a new head and with McFarlane, almost every figure is a uniquely tooled body mold. The amount of detailing and texturing that McFarlane does is incredible. Todd also listens to feedback. He’s made so many improvements to the figures and listened to the feedback fans have given him to better the line like changing the ankle joints, add more accessories, and improve range of movement. That shows that Todd really does care about the line and wants it to keep going and improving. Hasbro practically spits in fans facing when they get feedback or criticisms. They just keep upping the price and doing whatever they want instead of listening to the fans like Todd does. I still collect legends, but at the end of the day, McFarlane will always beat what Hasbro puts out.

As someone who has over 75 Marvel Legends (mostly from the past 4 years) and probably about 93% of everything DC McFarlane has made, here's my thoughts: No manufacturer has improved more since acquiring the license more than McFarlane. As a guy who used to be known for "action figures" that were basically poseable statues, he's come a long way. With getting rid of the ugly ball ankles and going for the more anatomically correct sculpted ankles, repositioning the ankle peg allowing for more foot roll, and moving forward with the torso articulation instead of using the antiquated hinge crunch that Hasbro has only recently started, his figures have surpassed Marvel Legends in terms of articulation. And with Hasbro still using the antiquated wrist articulation, it's no doubt that McFarlane has come farther in development of world class action figures than any of the competition, all while having vastly lower prices than the competition. I don't think anyone contest that McFarlane absolutely crushes Hasbro in sculpt detail. Where Hasbro really shines brightest in sculpt is in their G.I. Joe line, which seems to get the first cut of the budget, and Legends gets whatever's left. Meanwhile, there doesn't seem to be as much of a disparity between the sculpt detail of McFarlane's Spawn figures (his baby), and his DC figs. While I look at my retro carded Loki with a completely smooth body and painted on costume details, and my retro carded FF with smooth bodies, and my Spider-Man figs which have entirely painted on costumes, I wonder how much more awesome these would be if McFarlane made all superhero figures, not just DC. I also can't but realize that this means there's a greater homogeneity between Legends bodies. Who knows how many figures share a Spider-Man body, or an Invisible Woman body due to Legends's overwhelming simplicity in body sculpt. Meanwhile, McFarlane who absolutely does not have Hasbro money is better at giving us figures with more unique bodies that are harder to reuse. Hasbro has a bad habit of also reusing the same three energy effects, just dyed different colors to represent spells, swirling fire, and the Kirby crackle effect around the wrists. Meanwhile, about the most McFarlane has reused accessories is with Black Adam/Shazam/Flash lightning effects. Most Batarangs, grapnel guns, swords, and knives are unique to the figure they come with, when he COULD have just reused the same one over and over. Legends are much better about coming with accessories (when it's not just the same reused pieces) and an extra head, which McFarlane wouldn't dream of giving us. About all we get from McFarlane is extra hands. And the no guns rule from wet blanket WB has made it a lot more difficult to give the figures the accessories some of them need. What Hasbro lacks in sculpt detail, I find in my experience they make up for with paint, the universal consistency of its application, while I promise you that no two McFarlane Devastators have the same paint app on them. McFarlane desperately needs greater QC on paint, and what his figures absolutely have in sculpt, they sometimes lack in paint as is evidenced by the Grim Knight, Knightfall Azrael, and Arkham Knight figures which are the poster boys for unfinished paint jobs. But, when he's on, he's ON. Lobo, Infected Superman, Infected Batman, Page Punchers Aqualad, Blue Beetle, Rebirth Batman are just some. When it comes to business practice, toy companies will be toy companies. But, unlike the direct competition, McFarlane didn't virtue signal about going plasticless, become anti collector in the process, and then raise prices by almost 100% to punish all those who stayed. Compared to some of Hasblow's really awful practices, McFarlane giving you the figure you kinda want (New 52 Red Robin Tim Drake) and then later giving you the figure you actually wanted (the upcoming classic Tim Drake Robin) doesn't hold a candle to Hasblow. It also seems greedy for Hasbro to try and crowdfund some figures that they absolutely have the money to make for general release. I wonder how many people would have bought a Sentinel, or Galactus. And with some Haslabs failing miserably, it almost seems like Hasbro doesn't actually know what they fans want. McFarlane, in his improvement, has started to get to a lot of characters that hardcore fans want figures of, not just Batman. I do prefer McFarlane's 7" scale because I feel like the figure is more robust, solid, and like you actually spent money on something when you hold it in hand, as well as potentially having greater shelf presence, but Hasbro's 6" scale does save more space, and real estate for many collectors is the greatest asset. Due to McFarlane relying so much on Batman and his related characters for figures, and him doing dark iterations of other characters (and depending on how you display your shelves), a McFarlane display is often not as colorful as a Legends one, regardless of how you arrange your display. Anyway, with the improvements to articulation that's surpassed the competition, wider range of character figures available now, much more ethical business practices than the direct competition, and sculpt detail that's best in price range, McFarlane is by FAR the best superhero action figure manufacturer and I'm tired of pretending he's not. But, I still like my Marvel Legends and will continue to buy them. Just wish McFarlane made them instead.

Hasbro doesn't really make it up with paint. Sure, they have the face print thing (which Mcfarlane already has too!) but 2/3 times the faces are misprinted, with the eyes on different levels, or simply completely missing the sculpt. It's so bad that the likeness to the actor is completely dependent on whether you get a good print or not. More than ever noticeable on the new Indiana Jones figures. Or sometimes the figure just doesn't look like the actor, like pretty much any Luke Skywalker figure hasbro has released. Where as with Mcfarlane figures, which sure, usually don't get a lot of paint, but it's pretty much always on the right spot, correctly applied, and actor likenesses are always at least decent if not great. They already have print tech and at least on the ones that I bought, which were bought online (so I couldn't choose them) the print is pretty much perfect, with deep colors and none of the hasbro shine. I do think hasbro has better articulation overall, with slightly better joint engineering, but Mcfarlane is getting better and better, and soon they will be as good if not better.

I've always liked 7" scale. I feel like I'm just getting more figure there. I love that mcfarlane does mostly unique sculpts. And their megafigs are awesome. They have kept their prices in the $20 range so its easier on the wallet. Honestly, my only articulation gripe is that none of their figures don't have a ab crunch but its not a deal breaker. When it comes to the point of them having to charge more which were already seeing, im just hoping they give alittle more accessories. They give alot with flash related figures. Joe Classified are all at the six inch scale and McFarlane and others feel like outliers, it's annoying if you have a 1/12 scale car you're using as a backdrop that doesn't scale with your seven inch figures! Legends seems to want to give us at least one version of every character in the MCU and the regular 616 comic universe, all we get from McFarlane is Batman, Batman, Batman, imagine having your favourite food everyday, it won't be your favourite much longer. Also there's the sculps, Marvel seems a but more neutral McFarlane has the swooshing capes and the weird side eye! Mafex does some six inch DC figures that are what McFarlane should have aimed to deliver.

Still got my childhood super posable Spider-Man, and he holds up great. I still think Legends is the gold standard for retail action figures. Yes lots of issues, but a great Marvel Legends blows away a McFarlane any day. But the more Mcfarlanes I great, the more I see they are improving. The sculpts look great, but the joints still needs work. Usually pretty tight.

I'll always thank the '07 Transformers movie for getting me back into Transformers, but I sold off all of my Bayverse stuff a few years ago. I still want to collect Transformers, but it's still expensive. I used to collect Marvel Legends too, but I decided I can only collect 1 franchise. I live vicariously through KZbin toy channels.

20:48 That's how I've felt about Marvel Legends since 2014 when they released the Pizza Spidey mold for the 8th-ish time lol. Hasbro's Marvel Legends have been pretty much dead to since ever since I realized the constant reuse of bodies that aren't even that good to begin with. I'd honestly much rather pay higher aftermarket prices on ToyBiz's dated figures than buy Hasbro's dated (for different reasons) figures. I have no interest in DC at all, so I don't own any MCFarlane figures.

Uh uh nope Sony does not own the CHARACTER of Spider-Man. They own the movie production rights to Spider-Man. So if it is Spider-Man movie related, they answer to Sony. Otherwise they answer to marvel directly (yes Disney owns marvel, but marvel is a separate branch)

I really don’t feel like they’re comparable at all, Mcfarlane barely comes with extra hands or heads. The always have the diaper that makes it to where it restricts the movement on the legs.

Love the video . I still can't believe that people think there are more Batman figures because of favortism to a character that Mcfarlane drew 4 issues and a few one shots of and some concept work of in his entire career and not due to an admitted following of a plan use and follow current sales of all current and past dc comics and being contracted by Dc to do so . That and a steady flow of $ of course . While I LOVE the characters I have a love hate relationship w/ Dc multiverse and its backwards quality and slowly rising price scales . The availability is horrible . Thankfully there are tons of other great lines to collect . Marvel legends are def getting better but are not implementing the changes in very many of their figures . I def love them though for their own reasons . Thanks again for the great video

While yes the detail on the MacFarlane figure is way better i personally do not like the lack of movement in some of the joints and the qc of some of the figures, and i dont the price increase of marvel legends and how there cheaping out on some the figures

Both companies have their own favorites. there are characters that are high quality sculpt, heavily accessorize, superb paint job, unique packaging presentation, and good scale-size comparison. While others are just meh re-use of parts and re-paints.

From a British point of view I only collect Marvel Legends. I would love to get some of the McFarlane Toys. However it is so difficult to find them for an affordable price. If I try and get them straight from McFarlane they are affordable but the shipping costs more than the actual figure.

I’d say marvel legends has just gotten really lazy, because they’ve produced so many good products in the past but are now realizing how much they can actually get away with. In terms of which I prefer, I’d say McFarlane. Only real problems I have with McFarlane are some paint issues and the fact that the figures are 7-inch scale instead of 6-inch.

I like both of them for different reasons. They aren't perfect, but they bring us our favorite characters into plastic form and that's exciting. Plus they aren't as expensive (yet) as say Tamashii, Super 7 and others out there.

At the time this video was uploaded, there have been 4 Batman body bucks re-use. Batman Year 2. Batman Hush with open mouth. Vampire Batman and Batman Hush blue and grey suit. As of today though, we now have 5 of these Batman bodies used, with the addition of the Batman Spawn 2 pack. They really need to retire it now.

Not going to be popular with a lot of people here, but IMHO, there's no comparison, McFarlane DC are 💩, and except for an oddball here and there, Marvel Legends are Great! I am not just saying this, I am not some beginner! In 1 week I celebrate my 30th year as a Collector! I started April 2nd, 1994, with Super Powers and the early Toy Biz. I also owned the local Comic Book Store from 1986 to 2010. I have a pretty decent Collection, approximately 5,500 Total Figures, 10 different Earth's, 6 of them are DC, 3 Marvel, and a Fantasy Earth. I have; Earth 1: Justice League, Main DC Earth 2: Justice Society Earth 3: Crime Syndicate Earth 6: Kingdom Come style Earth 23: Expanded Watchmen style Earth 35: Created Equal, All Female style I have bought exactly 5 McFarlane DC Figures, not counting Rogues from the Batman '66 line. Despite having twice as many DC Earth's, I now have twice as many Marvel Figures as the Marvel Earth's are more complete. DC has always been Terrible about giving us enough Villains. Hey, if you like McFarlane, go for it. There are probably some I may buy in the future, bigger Figures like Darkseid, and I never have gotten a Bane yet. I would have gone for an individual Plastic Man too! But I already have all 4 of those Figures. Not worth it to me.

Mcfarlane only flaw imo is re-releasing the same figure but with different head(example:unmasked). Hasbro would just put that as an alternate head in the same packaging.
@hydrocritical2268 Жыл бұрын
Marvel Legends are objectively better in articulation, proportions and overall feel. Mcfarlane has better paint and sculpts? Maybe not even that, most of the multiverse figures are meatslabs. Even though Legends are getting pricy, the average legend vs the average mcfarlane multiverse figure is night and day. So much more you can do with legends. Maybe mcfarlane could adapt to the point of being better but as of right now that’s still the case. DC Icons if given enough time could’ve rivaled Legends.

Cool comparison 👍 awesome collection David 🤩 But Mcfarlane already on high with great sculpts before, they have loyal fans with their Staction 🤔 Todd being a rebel wants people to adjust to his 7" figures, that his ego works 😅 and lastly I am not 100% sure but Sony only have the film right to spiderman not animation, comics and action figures 🤔

For me its Mcfarlane I just wasnt impressed with Marvel Legends when I started collecting again. The first figures I bought about a year and a half ago was the Marvel Legends Magneto which has warpping issues with his legs now he wont stand up. But around that time I also bought the Mcfarlane Justice League Batman and the comedian Joker and I was extremely impressed by those two figures and decided to collect Mcfarlane toys and I'd buy select Marvel Legends. As of now I'm right at 100 Mcfarlane DC figures and I got eleven Marvel Legends and three Marvel select figures which are a much better Magneto Thanos and Beta Ray Bill.

Hands down McFarlane Toys. Simply based on detail. How many times have you passed on a Marvel Legend because the details of the suit were painted instead of sculpted? For me, it's several. Legends are for kids and Multiverse is for adults 😅

Good review comparison overall BUT I will have to say the criticism for the movie based figures are wild!? These figures come out so darn good that I’m actually shocked that the problems you had on McFarlands side was with the movie figures. I think the old Dc companies did an adequate job of producing movie based figures but needed room for improvement. McFarland definitely was that improvement. From accurate face scalps (80%) of the time. To great outfits from the movies. Character selection was great. At this point Dc is finally on the MCU level of quality movie figures. So I had to definitely had to bring that up.

I think the only way to compare these lines is on a figure per figure basis. What I mean is that both Marvel Legends and McFarlane have put out some clunkers, and both have put out some real winners. For me among the winners are the ML Renew Your Vows Spider-Man and the McFarlane Hush Batman. I only wish both lines were in the same scale.
@h.b.nielsen5619 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for doing this! I have plenty from each, but prefer McFarlane. Sculpt work, lack of reusing bodies as standard & price do it for me. Paint is basically the only weak point for my needs but can be added/improved relatively easily and with stunning results. I'd honestly rather save the money and add it how I want it. They sure do need to pull the contract they have with Walmart though for gold labels. Probably a dozen cancellations at this point and never available in store.
