Awesome video. Thought I would come back and comment because I tied a few of these up for a yellowfish fishing tip and they absolutely munched it. Much love from South Africa. If you ever have the chance to come this side of the world, yellowfish on the fly are next level fun.

Cheers from me in Maine; I am so glad I found your channel. I used to ty flies, (poorly) but I did fish Maine with my three boys for a long time until I got old and more or less disabled. Now I can dream of fishing and I want to start tying flies again. Your videos are great! I like your commentary and really like your honesty. I like your comment below ; you have the courage to gently tell a person to get on the right train. Thank you; my name is Peter- better known as Ketchemall. I am using my wife's computer so her name is Donna and she is afraid I will spend a lot of money setting up my kit so I will start slow. I gave all my fly stuff to a close nephew who loves to ty flies. I have still got many fly rods and reels set up in the living room just for fun.I did give a few rods and reels to my sons and daughter.May god bless you and your family in all your endeavors.

God bless you as well, and I’m happy my videos are helping you. Prices of things have gone up for sure, so you might find Higher prices for fly tying vices and tools than your remembering from before. But good luck and I hope you can find a good vice and tools at good prices.

Thanks for your stonefly. Quite possibly the finest on the Web I've seen. I'm using vive's threads nowadays and found with a little bit of Wax it helps it stick and not so slippery. I've been tying for 65 years and back in the day of silk and gut a little wax always helps. Good health to you and your's Dave Hughes 🎣🤠

When salmonflies are on the water, their wings splay out. They never keep their wings flat over the body as they would when they're on a willow branch. The fish I've caught on dry salmonflies seemed to keep on the slight ripple vibrations that the 'spent' wings help create.

Any advice or suggestion for a great quality fly tying vise for my teenage son. He watches your videos along with myself and I'm happy to he has taken great interest. He is 13 and I want advice on a fly tying station, stand, vise and tools that can get started on without getting a couple of more expensive ones that I own. Trying to surprise for his birthday 🎂 Thanks and also a few of your flies and autograph for a shadow box mounted above his tying station that is for a fee of course. Thanks and keep Tying

So I use the renzetti traveler and love it, but it’s not inexpensive at all. I’ve not used any vices less expensive extensively, I did use the monguse and it’s ok. I hear good things on the peak. I think risen fly sells an inexpensive vice but I couldn’t tell you how good it is or not. For tools, I highly recommend getting them individually because most sets have things you might not use. Sounds like you tie though, do you have extra bobbins and scissors? Maybe you could hand down a few. Good luck to your son, and it’s awesome that he wants to get into tying. Do you guys live in the area? I will be doing a fly tying class some time soon up in Bourne TX.

Hello again. Hope your hands are coming back online as desired, you still have some yard work projects on the honey-do. Anyway, I can send you some suggestions if you like for making better extended bodies as you asked. Let me know. Tom T from NJ

not sure why KZbin hid this comment, just saw it. I don’t have a storefront online. I go by word of mouth and people just telling me what they want. You can find me on Instagram and private message me your order, or email me your order. My email can be found on the homepage of my KZbin channel in the about section.

Warning, I don’t believe this would be a very durable Fly, and I think it would fall apart after a few fish quickly the techniques of showing people might appear to work when you look at the fly, but they are not durable techniques. ! A question for the tire have you ever fished this fly before? I believe the wing material you’re putting on the stonefly will cause a wind resistance. end result, wind knots in your leader.. also because you’re using so much foam, your flies gonna float very high on the surface and not create any surface tension like a real bug does in the water and the fish fish will not see this presentation because it’s floating too high in the water and not breaking the surface tension. You can solve the problem by putting it on a heavy hook a two or 3X would . I hooked you chose. It’s too small big stoneflies like you’re trying to imitate are gently imitated with size 2 or 4 hooks

All good thoughts, I have not fished it yet no. I didn’t come up with this wing technique though, I found it on an article. I wonder also how durable the wing will be, but I do know it’s on a pattern someone else came up with so I trusted it to a degree. As for the rest of the fly, it’s created the same way as a fly fish food salmon-fly pattern as I said in the video and also put that video in the description section of this video. They used superglue for the legs the same way. They used a foam wing for the wing instead of this one. I thought maybe it would be similar with this wing in cast ability. I do recommend probably using a heavier tippet when fishing the fly if your worried about line knots.

@@McFlyAngler the problem is also to people come up with ideas and put them out to other people and they don’t try them selves before you should put a fly on. KZbin should least push it several times and determine the conditions your fishing it in the depths your fish, helium, and how you fish obviously you didn’t do that, and what happens if you publish misleading information for other people I’m very critical. I’ll only have you, but if others to try to post things that they don’t try themselves. Fishing time is very precious to people. Fly Tying time is a little less forgiving because it’s relaxation, but if I were to sit down, tie a fly and hope they want to catch fish with it. I have to have confidence in it and obviously, you neither fish to fly nor do you have confidence in the tie or the fly so I suggested the future you fission and see what others think and see what you think when you’re using that flyer that you want to suggest the people in Thai. I also suggest that you look at Fly Tying techniques on extended bodies and gluing the two pieces of 2 mm foam together with just putting some sort of medium or small rubber legs in the end would be a great idea and you could trim the body before you lose it together and only glue half of it together and then, when you put it on the hook, you could put a thread body down with the thread body down and then you could glue the foam to that, and then you could create your segmentation‘s which would create a flyer that you’re talking about but far more durable. I also suggest you figure out what stoneflies are available in your area and try to match the hatch to them because if you live on the East Coast, the pattern E tide is obviously a West Coast pattern and might not work at all. I like the way you tie flies and you try, but you need to be more investigative in your thought and use your own fishing time to see if the fly works. Jim.

@goff3376
@goff3376 Жыл бұрын
I think kobler fly tying wax on the thread will prevent it from slipping from the hook , will keep it flat when applied on flat thread, and cut less in the foam. Beautiful fly thought, thanks for sharing and inspiring.
