You should have a drain hole at the bottom of the filler protector to let water drain out when it rains, even with a cap some water will get in. Small detail but important for long run, otherwise a very good plan.

Cant stop watching your channel dude! Im 24 and a Union Electrician up here on Long Island. Back in High School a very good friend of mines father who's a Fitter handed me down an old harbor freight 90 amp flux machine to learn with. Ever since I really enjoy tackling smaller fab projects and repairs. Ive learned a ton of tips and tricks from your vids so far. Im now looking to upgrade my equipment and setup little bits at a time to start moving towards taking on small side work in my time off like yourself. For me your content is real relatable and refreshing. Thanks

Definitely good choice on a TIG welder you will not be disappointed with that machine once you get started with it I have one myself I even put the max cool water cooler on it too with a water cooled flex lock TIG torch the machine is freaking awesome and I weld aluminum a lot with it!!!!

Might be cool to put a oxygen bottle cap on the gas fill truck is coming along going to be a awesome work truck! the harbor freight titanium plasma is clutch dude, Ive had mine for almost a year and it still works great. those cold cut saws are also a must have tool great video!
@mcfwelding2 жыл бұрын
That cold cut saw just convinced me that I can hold off on a plasma cutter for now. I don't have the air compressor nor an extra 220v outlet in the garage to run a plasma and a bigger air compressor just yet
@powrguy16962 жыл бұрын
Nice job, Matt. Those cold-cut saws are great. After being stuck with an angle grinder trying to make straight cuts for so long, you really appreciate the saws now. I probably would have pre-drilled those mount hole for the welder base in the channels before I weld them in, maybe even welding a nut under the channel, but you'll cut some access holes I guess. Prices of steel now are crazy, so save every scrap....LOL

Really into this build. You're lucky to have a truck like this, but you deserve it with all the hard work you put into it. A lot of guys think you gotta have a lot more tools to be productive, but you make what you have work the best you can. Just like the rest of us who don't have all the fancy gear. Thanks for sharing your journey. You're going to be super happy with the fruits of your labor when this is done.

Nice build, coming along good. I have at least five different auto darks from over the years, and my go to hood at work is the basic fibermetal with a 2x4 auto dark. I got tired of ordering all different size clears, so I just let the contractor provide em.

That's the easiest was. 2x4 clears are always around on job sites

Dude, rad build. Great bumper. And that filler neck 4” is rad. There is no reason to put a repad on that bad boy. Its not a man way on a pressure vessel. Its just a durable gas cap protector. I would just run a 3 or 4 pass fillet weld . Regardless great build dude.

Nope no storage under. Will be getting a 6 foot tool box for up top and the back seat can hold a majority of my tools for now as well. It's tight under there with it only being a 6 foot bed

So I have a 99 ram 1500 with the 5.9 magnum and It's my only vehicle/welding rig and the engine handles a full rig load like its not even there lol I have a weldanpower 225 and big torch bottles and everything else a rig would have but the small space is killing me and it's hard to find a way to setup a bathtub rig that I like (looking cool over convenience of course) but I have a 5x8 welding trailer I fabled from scraps in my shop that I never used. Have you ever seen someone make a flatbed out of a trailer? Obviously I'd cut off the tongue and leaf spring hangers
@mcfwelding Жыл бұрын
I would say build a flatbed for the truck from scratch. It is very easy to do and you can build it thr size you want
@jackmioff000 Жыл бұрын
@@mcfwelding why not just weld my machine directly to the frame and do the same with my torch bottle rack and tool boxes and lead Reel? That doesn't sound like a bad idea but I'm also the dude who ignores crunching sounds and smoke clouds coming from the rear for 2 hours until a wheel breaks off at the axle and hits a curb and flying 30 feet in the air and landing on a neighbors roof so ideas aren't my strong suit
@grumpycricket2 жыл бұрын
You could've drilled and tapped mounting holes in the C channel.
@mcfwelding2 жыл бұрын
i could have yes.
@lwwarren Жыл бұрын
You could have also drilled the bolt holes in the c-channel for the welder first, then weld some captured nuts on the c-channel before you welded it to the bed.
@weldernotmechanic85882 жыл бұрын
Even with a lid on the fuel cap I would drill a weep hole for any water that may sit inside. Because it will get in there otherwise nice build man I’m hoping to do a flat bed soon
@mcfwelding2 жыл бұрын
stay tuned!
@brianguest5612 жыл бұрын
why wouldnt you just weld studs on for welder?
@mcfwelding2 жыл бұрын
I prefer it to be a through bolt so I can slide it when back a few inches when I service it. If I was configuring it a different way I think you're right, a welded stud would work. This way will just be easier for me in the long run
@McNeillWelding2 жыл бұрын
Was thinking you could also drill or torch an oversized hole the size of the outer diameter of a nut. Set the nut down into the channel and weld it to the channel so it’s flush with the top. Just another idea. Looking good man.
