McHale's Navy Full Episodes: Season 2x17 | "A Medal for Parker"
Major complications develop when the guys send a chapter of Parker's war novel - including a highly fictionalized account of his sinking of the biggest battleship in the Japanese fleet - to Parker's hometown girlfriend, in an attempt to help him win her heart.

You really have to marvel at the amount of physical humor actor Joe Flynn subjected himself to, as they were physically punishing to himself. The amount of pratfalls and other stunts he did is something that is rarely, or not seen at all nowadays in TV comedies.

Last night I was watching the episode where the crew get dressed up in Japanese kimonos and have tea at five o'clock in the morning to confuse Bingy. Bingy advertently picked up the Japanese lingo after crashing out on Parker's bunk and to hear Bingy (Joe Flynn) yell and scream in English and Japanese simultaneously, so funny, his timing was brilliant. I can't get enough of him either.

I like the fact that Naval intelligence knew that Parker's story was a fabrication but used it to keep bombers on hot standby hoping the battleship would show up. I know it's fiction but it is a pretty decent plot. Not too bad for a comedy show.

@@canuck_gamer3359 Probably because the Yamato was sunk in 1945 and this story was in 1943. Many WWII Navy veterans were still alive at the time of airing this episode. And they would've probably made some not too pleasant comments. Anyway, the Yamato had the largest guns ever mounted on a warship - 18.1 inches. So, for me, a fake ship seems appropriate.

It happened more than several times in our time the news agencies printed soldiers lovers letters filled with ah BS. Happened WWI and II and Nam and Korea... Kinda funny Trump speaks of the Fake media. Basic bullshit most of it... My grand father was WWI ace... There were more than 3 USA news articles between 1915 and 16 my grand father was shot down and killed. Now days you can't even find a trace of his name. He was Eddie Rickenbackers wing man for 4 long years. Together they had 18 confirmed kills. Not a modern news article on those facts to this very day having my grand fathers name in the print with Rickenbacker... The official news discredited other confirmed kills and omitted popular other pilots names and outlined mistakes both aces made because according to the NY Times of the day and west coast papers with this and that they could have shot down more Germans over Italy. Mostly bullshit stories like today news articles... Most of the USA Media during those wars wrote their own narratives or publicized letters sent to relatives state side. Truth is most of the stars and stripes news folks sent to cover the front lines were all cowards on LAND. The news media best illustrates thee photographers that were on board U.S. and UK Navy ships. Most of the photographers on land ran and hid or got killed so there was very little truth of all the wars outside of the documentary films y'all can see 4 yourselves. There is a real reason lot of the real land war footage is sketchy outside of some films you can see. Most of the photographers were actual U.S. Army and alot of em were killed in all the wars. Not so much cowards as being distracted at times but alot of em ran and hid when the actual combat took place. Distraction can cost you your life. Just like texting and driving does..

Very funny show but Parker didn’t have to act that stupid for it to be funny .

Parker's and Binghamton's stoushes are classic comedy and I grew up on British comedy, not American comedy. Wouln't be surprised if John Cleese and later Rowan Atkinson took notes on this pair because Basil Fawlty has a lot of similarities with Bingy and Mister Bean with Chucky.

@@terrythekittieful Excellent observation. I watched the same shows (Fawlty Towers, Mr Bean) and never made the comparisons. Very enlightening.

@@neilmanhard1341 I know John Cleese liked Phil Silvers and Tinker Bell was from Bilko of course, but I have never heard him (JC) mention McHale's Navy, but I don't know how he could not like Joe Flynn, especially.

@@terrythekittieful Bingington is hilarious. You can see where captain Mainwaring gets his wonky hat and glasses act from.
