Mchunu promises action in Hanover Park

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu visited Hanover Park in the Cape Flats and met with community members over high levels of crime in the area due to gangsterism. The Minister promised to work with communities to fix dilapidated police stations and avail more policing resources to counter gang violence. Cape Crime Crisis Coalition's Llewellyn Macmaster unpacks the community’s perceptions of the new minister and the expectations.

The first thing to be seen to is the 'rundown police stations'. How can the police and the public have any confidence when the rot starts at work. How depressing to work in a dump, every day. Listen to the people when they report a corrupt cop. If they know that nothing will be done, why would they put their necks out?
