People will buy a pickup truck that costs more and won't last as long as this McIntosh system. The equipment is some of the most beautiful in the audio world. Combining that gear with Sonus Faber speakers is not only great sounding (I've heard the larger Sonus Faber speakers mated to McIntosh), it's gorgeous craftsmanship. It's ear candy mated with dental floss and a champagne chaser 😁 Anyway so much for that image. I liked what I saw, and he's got a system that can be enjoyed for many years.

There are people in this world that can literally hear a pin drop in another room and i am one of them which is more of a curse than a blessing. Being able to hear the smallest differences in sound forces me to invest in better equipment. Just because most people can't hear the difference does not mean some of us are audiofools for buying expensive gear to provide a pleasurable listening experience as opposed to be forced to listen to what would amount to fingernails on chalkboard experience on "cheap" system.

I can guarantee you his hearing test results would come out to be sub par. I just find it ironic. It is similar when someone invests in a screen that has better resolution than their eyes can discern. This is the perfect example of the power of marketing. When the equipment used to listen to a record is more expensive than the equipment used to make it.
@sidvicious31295 жыл бұрын
Here are my thoughts, a couple of problems that I had are the Audio Quest CV8 cables are not silver, (silver cables in that length would have been extremely expensive) they are copper or perfect surface copperwww.musicdirect.com/cables/audioquest-cv-8-full-range-speaker-cables-pr. I bought a pair of 8ft for 350.00 6 years ago. The twenty-foot pair would be more, but nowhere near 100,000 for the equivalent. When the guy says as he looks at the preamp, it's glowing it's got to be doing something and something big, no what it is doing is given the preamp a warm-up period as to not stress the tubes during the warm upstage. McIntosh put the window in for effect just like the blue lights and that's not saying that it is a bad thing, but an effect never the less. The owner also says that it's one of the best listening rooms that you have ever heard, not costing 1 billion dollars. That is a hard statement to judge without listening to a billion-dollar room and I'm sure there are better rooms than his because some of the best rooms and ones that are built contain no glass and that is taking into effect that he used bubble wrap to minimize reflections. I'm not going to say that you or I can guarantee anything regarding his hearing test, some older people can hear better than younger people. I can say that some of the things that he did, I wouldn't do and I own Audio Research gear that is of the equivalent of his. You have to look at this hobby or all hobbies as fun. Look at 40-60 thousand dollar Harley Davidson motorcycles or 60-80 thousand dollar cars, 2,500 to 20,000 watches, 160-600 sneakers, the list is endless and so is the marketing. The problem with some of the claims is without a listening test his claims can't be validated, but if he is happy, I'm happy. As far as the sub-par video equipment or techniques used to make it I agree with you, but all Photographers are not good Videographers and not all Videographers are good Photographers, but it doesn't take away from the fact that the owner of this system has a great system that he is proud of. I know it's a great system because I have heard all of the components before. I do appreciate Elias R for bringing us the content.

Awe come on! It’s a hobby and it’s fun no matter what price point. He could sell that equipment and nicely recoup most of his investments and in some cases make a profit. You drive a new 80k Chevy pickup off the lot and it depreciates by 13k instantaneously.

If I understood this right, he watches TV through this?! I can understand why he didn't play anything throughout this video. If you're watching this on your laptop, or even worse, your cell phone, the demo would be pointless. However, some of us have 5.1 and/or 7.1 computer desk tops. Even they wouldn't get the true breath of this system but it would be nice to have some idea. Anyway, I'm a long time audiophile (since 1978), and the only reason I have a TV (or 3) is for when I'm at the end of the day and may watch it just before bed. I wouldn't go through the trouble of wiring my TV to any of my audio system. I'm 'analog only' and Yes, I have a Mac, (2105 Power Amp). I agree, (and always have), that if you want the best, go to Mac. At first, I didn't really agree with his choice of speakers for this system. However, after realizing that it's about the TV and 'streaming videos' and whatnot, I suppose that would be as good a choice as any. He said he's a "digital-guy" meaning he preferred a digital source. I suppose there may be another choice besides digital when it comes to television oriented sound but if so, I don't know what. He has tube amps for the "warmth" and speaks of the "warmth" in the sound from the use of wood ceilings. Warmth is what analog is really all about, but again, I don't see any other choice to get that warm fill out of digital when it comes to TVs and streaming sound so in a way, I see 'logic in the madness' . As a strictly analog & music motivated audiophile, if I was able to drop that kind of money on a system, the speakers would all be Klipsch Cornwalls (four of them) with one or two McIntosh tweeter strips. As I said, I have a Mac 2105 and 3 reel to reel decks, (one is a 1/2-track mastering deck), Turntables, EQ, and Klipsch speakers, (though none are the Cornwalls), but I'd never be able to afford a line up like his, especially that Mac power amp he's got there. That Mac amp has to go for what, $11K? The system is truly impressive, no doubt about it. We can argue all day long about the cables. Audio (Acoustic) Research Labs did an extensive scientific comparison on the various cables and the claims made by manufacturers a few years back. The bottom line was the cables in all their many variations offered by manufacturers, (at prices as high as $150 per foot and even higher), showed very little difference from a standard, decently made, patch cable at $15 to $25 for 10 feet. I don't recall all the details but it was alarming at how little difference there was between a 6-foot, $20 cable and a 3-foot $250 cable, (except the price, of course). Great video, Thanks, Richg

The so called backwash from the speaker is called back EMF (ElectroMotive Force which is the voltage produced as the speaker voice coil moves back into the magnetic field)and Bob Carver's new tube amplifiers use it to listen to the room and respond to it , here is a 350 watt tube amplifier with a 10 year warranty on the tubes with a 50 year tube life expectancy www.bobcarvercorp.com/crimson-raven . Those of us old enough to remember the McIntosh challenge www.soundandvision.com/content/podcast-29-bob-carver where back in 1969 they challenged any amplifier to beat them in power and Bob while still a student built an amplifier in a coffee can that blew the McIntosh away . This kid acts surprised that Jack the movie star is hooked on McIntosh sound. Lot's of people are all in on Mac stuff. I've been there along with a few friends for decades and I'm not rich at all, I'm famous among my friends, you just need to take your time and build slowly until you complete the system and buy used when you can to save some money, they don't go bad, they last forever but you want to stay within a decade of production for most things, some amps you can buy older than that and be fine, the processor of course you want new as possible and decide if you will go 2 channel only or 7 channel or both. I like both, a killer powerful 2 channel and a 5 channel that can power the movies along with it, that produces very clean, no distortion sound. Once you have a large investment in stuff, go ahead and take the plunge into Wire World cables, it will change everything for the better if you go with their mid priced stuff. People that claim wires don't matter don't have great equipment and so they are probably right but once you spend a lot to get quality stuff, go the rest of the way and you will be very happy you did, or if you are almost deaf, return them. Also, the room is very important, I love it when wood is part of the walls everything sounds better when wood is around the room, no glass or at least cover it up some.
