Stop worrying about comparing rugby to NFL. It’s your channel, you can say whatever you like. NFL is your frame of reference, it’s understandable that you’d make comparisons. Looking forward to more rugby reactions, and I’m happy to see you enjoying this great sport!

Eben's height is 2,03m which is about 6ft 8in, weighs in just under 120 kgs which is just over 260 lbs. He benchpresses 175 kgs (385 lbs) and accelerates to 40m in 5.11 secs reaching 28 kmph (17.4 mph) - Usain Bolt does this in 4.64 secs

one inch is 2.54 cm. so you have to divide 203 by 2.54 to get the inches and then by 12 to get the feet.

The idea in Rugby Football was that you could take a classroom of 30 boys divide them into two teams of 15 and there would be a position for every shape and size. The three short beefy guys form the front row in the set scrum. The two tall lanky guys (Eban) are the receivers in the lineout. The smallest guy is usually the Scrum Half (no 9) who plays a role similar to a Quarter Back.

Eben is fantastic. Surprisingly for his size his aggression is almost always very controlled. Hardly ever been sanctioned for off the ball play. He just does the job. He is unnaturally big, he looks tall amongst rugby players but against the general public he is massive, not only in height but in physique- look at that photo with him and Conner MxGregor.

One of the great England players and Captain of the national rugby team was a guy name Martin Johnson. He lived int he next village to me and was 6' 7" tall and was huge weighing over 260 pounds (muscle is lightre than fat!), when he walked, into the village pub he had to bend slightly and filled the doorway, it was just as it the sun had become eclipsed. He was a hard player on the field but a lovely man off it. He was broader than the South African subject ot this film.

No 1-8 are the forwards you see at scrum time. They are typically the big boys with 4&5, the locks usually the tallest and 5-8(loose forwards), the more athletic units(typically). 9-15 are backline players and they are the fast boys that typically do most of the finishing off a platform created by forwards (especially in South African rugby). Your bigger backs are usually the centres(12&13), small scrumhalf at 9, The fastest players are usually the wings at 11&14, the full back at 15 needs to be fast, but is also the last line of defense needing to make 1 on 1 tackles and have a good kicking foot. The flyhalf(10) is like the quarterback in a way as they usually dictate where the phase of play will be going by running, kicking or passing the ball. On attack the forwards and backs are strategically arrange, no set rule. When you are defending, you try and arrange your defense to match up with what is coming at them and to overturn the ball. Glad you are enjoying the game. Another big SA enforcer was Bakkies Botha, Sebastian Shabal from France was also a unit. Look at some games of Samoa at the World cup, bloody big hits, although often illegal or late.

Hi, I am Scott from South Africa, was watching a few of your videos and yes you are quite right stating that there are different sizes for different positions eg. your back line which is your running guys and your forwards which do the donkey work as they call it , your forwards are larger , and more powerful and your back line is more running, not mean that they are not powerful but as you say there are different positions for every guy, hard to explain all on a message, but easy to see on the field your forwards are normally numbered 1 to 8 and back line is 9 to 15 and you all so have 5 substitute incase someone gets hurt or having a bad game , hope that helps a bit , sorry but can't explain well on texting

Gronk is a fair comparison in terms of size & body type. He was TB12 go to and whenever he needed to pull a rabbit out of hat, Gronk could be relied on to get downfield shake his marker and make the clutch catch. In rugby , Etzebeth role would be primarily to sack Tb12 failing which he'd need to prevent 87 from completing the play without conceding a PI. (Defense) .. on offensive plays (think iron-man football) he'd have the responsibility of the RB to break through the line of scrimmage. (In a vague comparison) Hope this helps

Little brief description of rugby for those who dont know. The goal of rugby is get over the try-line where you have to physically place the ball on the ground which is then followed up by a place kick (conversion), like your American Football. The other way to get points is if the opponent violates any rules that warrant a 'penalty', where we can go for another 'place kick' (or a scrum or lineout kick) which awards 3 points as opposed to a try which is 5, followed up the conversion attempt, awarding 2 points. Tries and conversion go hand in hand but you can miss the latter, only resulting in a 5 point gain, awarded from a try and not a total of 7. Basic Info: 1. Pass the ball straight or backwards - forward is well forward and not allowed. 2. Can kick the ball from hand to gain yards into enemy territory which is a gamble as you will either lose possession or reclaim it from the kick - this is used when you cant get through a defensive line or their line and or fullback as pushed up leaving space for a kick and run to retake and make ground. 3. That thing of the players being bent down, bound together, is a 'scrum', awarded from foul play, it gives the attackers a chance to execute a set piece or move, very much like in American Football, its like your hucks, just not for every single play as only arises from foul play. The opponents can however overpower the attackers scrum and push them backwards to gain the ball back using their feet. A scrum is used to open the playing field up as less players are roaming or to gain yards close to the try-line or to result in a penalty from applying too much pressure in the initial hit, causing the opponents to collapse the scrum for example which is not allowed. 4. When players are tackled, the ball carrier needs to release the ball back into play once on the ground (why you see many of them stretch their arms out to place the ball back on their side to be picked up), and this is where the opponents pile in as they are going to try rip the ball out of your hands (theres more to it but thats the basic principle), which will result in you either giving it away or holding onto it (which is a penalty as you must not stop the ball from being played in essence), this is why the teammates pile in once someone is tackled to 'clear' and prevent the opponents from getting over the ball and causing a penalty. Teammates clearing these 'rucks' also allows the ball to become readily available for faster movement and plays. 5. When the ball is kicked out (there are other things like where the kick took place, did it bounce beforehand but thats for another time), this is a 'line-out' where more set moves are executed, like your hucks, so players try move around the line-out to confuse the opponents as the thrower is throwing for a pre-determined distance and height depending on what 'move' they are doing and this is why the opponents try mimic their movement so they can get their jumpers at the same location in the line so they can jump with the attackers to try contest the throw. 6. Player jersey numbers from 1-8 are the 'forwards', these are usually the bigger guys that participate in scrums, ruck clearing, lineouts and general defensive-line bruising, think of them are your 'Guards' in football. Then the numbers 9-15 are the 'backs', think of these are your 'Receivers'. 7. One last way to get points, is by going for drop goals which awards 3 points. This is where you can drop the ball and upon the bounce, follow with a kick and must go in-between the up rights. Perfect example of this for me anyways, would be the retired English legend Jonny Wilkinson. I think that's the general idea of rugby without diving into the specifics of each areas and the rules. LETS GO BOKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE #RWC23

What I love about Etzebeth in a game, is that he plays good hard rugby and doesn't take any shit (Gator don't take no shit!) from anybody. The difference between him and Bakkies Botha is that Bakkies was dirty and mean, there to piss people off and hurt them and upset their game. Etzebeth has probably been yellow-carded twice... not sure what Bakkies's card tally is lol.

Should really watch some rugby , 1,2,3 are the heavy set immensely strong front row and battering rams , Eben is 4 sort of similar to 5 which lock the front row in the scrum from a 2nd row, make line out jumps , then there are 3 loose forwards at 6,7,8 , these are big but fast heavy players after that 12,13 are centres also tend toward larger men but more speed and tackle ability , 9 and 10 are called the switch (scrum half and fly half ) nearest equivalent is a quarterback , sort of a play decider both taking an equal share of decisions in most teams , 11 and 14 are wings very fast runners . The only way to learn what is what in the game is to watch , The eagles (USA) have a side they Qualified both last time and this upcoming (2023) world cup . The main difference between gridiron and rugby is no time outs , 23 players only , 15 on the field at any time ( unless they are sin binned an then the team goes down a player for 10 minutes or the rest of the game), players going off are not allowed back on unless there is a blood related injury or a head injury . Game is 80 minutes with a half time at 40 , you will notice a degree of respect between the thuggish players and the referee , his decision is final . So that said in this video when Eben routinely knocks down a front row in a tackle he is hard .He is also a 80 minute player ( sometimes) , which means he is fit . Would suggest trying a look at rugby championship , this is where the big teams of rugby meet up ( South African , New Zealand , Australia and Argentina ) or the old Rugby world cup games from 2019 ( or the older ones ) sometimes even 6 nations games , before my northern hemisphere fellow fans get sensitive about big teams remember how many world cups are held by teams in the Rugby championship and how many are held by teams in the Six nations ( 9 world cups one every 4 years , 8 held by RC teams 1 by a 6Nations team ) ( Till next year , looking at France and Ireland )
