At this time they weren't most F1 engines turned 13-14,500. This was the era right before engine suppliers went to pneumatic valves. (The mechanical springs were starting to run into valve float) these pneumatic valves allowed the engine suppliers to rev all the way up to 19-20k in 2003 with the 3.0L v10s

I know I’m going to trigger every F1 V12 fan when I ask this but doesn’t anyone else think that V12 at lower revs sounds a bit like an Aventador V12? I know the responses are likely going to be, “No!”, “This is proper F1 engineering and the Aventador’s a kid’s road car!”

Yes. Both are 3.5L V12 engine.

Same engine configuration - 3.5 liter V12. The Honda RA121E (seen here) had a 60-degree Bank angle and 4 valves per cylinder. The Ferrari 037 had a 65-degree bank angle and (I believe) 5 valves per cylinder. The slightly different bank angles and different valve configurations made these otherwise similar engines sound quite different from each other!
