I came to see if anyone mentioned it before I did.... this was probably Jay's most "wished upon" vehicles, he always talks about that movie, and there's no way you could forget this McLaren after seeing it just once, god damn that thing is gorgeous, sounds phenomenal as well with those equal length headers and those 8 singles/4 duals(didn't get a good look)...I know Jay said Webber's, but IDK if the owner ever confirmed they were, regardless, the combination sounds phenomenal, shame the aluminum Olds wasn't still the block though, that would've made it extra special 👌

This has to be one of the best, if not *the* best, episode of this show yet. It had a _beautiful_ , historic car with an *_incredible_* exhaust note that also had an extensive, active and diverse past. There was an owner that knew just as much (if not more) than Jay about the car, and the period in which it was made, and, for the first time in ages, the conversation was smooth and flowing, without any moments of noteworthy awkwardness. And to top it all off, the car was so good to actually drive that we got a show of _genuine_ excitement and energy from Jay at the very end during the driving portion. Even the overall duration of the video was right in the sweet spot (in my opinion, at least) for the KZbin channel version of the show.

I got to see this car at Sears Point in November. The Velocity Invitational featured McLaren cars - many of which were for show only. But this M1A was parked on the false grid behind the grandstands on the main straight and I got some pictures and a video. When they touched the starter, that Chevy V8 lit up with unbelievable thunder! Since Jay Leno are about the same age, I was as excited to see this car and revel in the experience as he was! The Elvis connection and "Spinout" was just "icing on the cake." Made my day!

*Kia ora (hello) Ohhh this first McLaren car needs to come back home to New Zealand... I hope one day that Egon Zweimiller will send this car home to NZ. Bruce was born & raised in West Auckland New Zealand, so he is a 'westie'... and has a huge following here. He is like our other famous kiwi 'Burt Munro' who built his home made motorbike & who raced his bike on the salt flats and to this day still hold the title for that speed. Burt's motorbike is in a NZ museum. The third famous one was John Britten who built his motorbike to race... and he beat all others on the track... There were only a few Britten bikes made... one is in a museum in NZ too. The others are still around. Thanks Jay for showing us this video... and you got to drive Bruce McLaren's car. 🙂nz*

*Bruce was actually brought up in Remuera, and went to Meadowbank Primary School. His father, Les "Pop" McLaren, owned a service station in Remuera Road.*

@@Aotearoa_Kiwi *Opps.... but here is the westie link.. The 32-year-old father of one was a household name in New Zealand, especially in west Auckland where he'd owned Bruce McLaren Motors on Te Atatu Rd since 1965. He was buried at Waikumete Cemetery in Glen Eden. in West Auckland. Plus also a Intermediate sch is named after him in West Auckland too. As well as a street also bears his name in West Auckland 🙂*

@@andreacrashe9894 Yip, there's definitely a link to West Auckland. Bruce's first motorsport event was the Muriwai Beach Hillclimb in his Austin Ulster. He even named his home _"Muriwai"_ in Surrey, England.

Jay we met at Ralph's on LaBrea and talked in the produce section after your recovery form burns on your face. I took the liberty to post a ALERT on your page here, as things going on in America and the world need to be addressed. This simple ALERT is just to motivate God's people to do what they should be doing to bring about restraint form lawlessness in the earth that has been running rampant lately. Thank You JAY for allowing me this liberty, love you sir.

Sometimes people like to hear themselves talk, and sometimes people have things to say that people want to hear. This was one of those times. That man is a scholar in vehicle history. Just wow.

I’m 45 so I first heard about McLaren in the 90s when the F1 came out. The name McLaren has always felt futuristic to me. Looking at this car, much like a Shelby Cobra roadster is always so fascinating, unexpected. Like, wow those guys were building cars way back then?!?

Hey Jay how does it feel to be more popular than Elvis? The world will miss you as much or more, I personally will. Your a legend in the auto world for your appreciation of cars. Giving us history of all things auto. Mad respect for you sir.

I have an awful lot of respect for Mr Leno and his car collection. He has the car collection because of a love of automobile technology and just the freedom that offered I believe. I've been to car collections that are investments and they just don't compare. I haven't come across many people that know as much about Oldsmobile history as Mr Leonard does. I was born in Lansing Michigan and I kind of take pride in the Oldsmobile name plate and what they did, and didn't. My greatest fear is what happens down the road with these great men like Mr Leno. We're on a precipitous of energy transition.

I'd heard Bruce liked the Oldsmobile engines because they were a good, solid, block , reliable and would hold up to the rigors of racing a lot better than the one off engine manufacturers. I also heard that the papaya orange the cars were painted was because that was the only color paint they had on hand when they built the first car but it stood out so they kept in.
