Interesting point, Clunes wears his wedding ring on his right hand in Doc. A young Robert "Jaws" Shaw in the first movie. I recently read his autobio "A Dog's Life" wherein he describes his relationships with his parents and why he has an insatiable love for dogs. Gremlin was the mangy actor dog in the first seasons, Clunes and Gremlin had a special relationship. Clunes tells how he was devastated when Gremlin passed.

Attribute Clunes' genuinely warm smile and honest persona to his actor excellence. He has grown into one of Britain's... the world's best Actors. It must require unimagineable artful skill to so completely morph one's persona (how does he make those sneers and scowls with his face!!) from pleasant, warm nice guy... to arrogant, disdain for all persona of DM. It's undeniable evidence of Clunes's superb acting ability... that you can't "reconcile" his real self from DM. Good! Hope you agree.

Yes. You will STILL be sad although you knew ahead that Joan died. I certainly was when I saw episode #1 of Series 5. I was especially sad when DM took his lovely baby out to the farm to "see" Auntie Joan on his own. How loving, sweet and poignant... well done all round. Notice that for the first time... DM didn't sneer at Buddy the little Jack Russell dog when he (the dog) came running to DM as he exited his car carrying Baby Ellingham. A treat to see.
