Loved the video and have been following along on this series. I wanted to make one correction on Ebay fees where you shorted yourself in your calculations. It's minor and I understand using a rounder number for the larger example, but here is what I wanted to share. You probably already know this, but its easy to forget. For example, on a card that sells for $100 on Ebay. Let's use a 10% sales tax rate and say you charged the buyer $5 in shipping. That buyer's total cost is $115. Ebay charges 13.25% on all of that, even the sales tax they collect and pay that you never see. So their fees to the seller on that example are $15.24, assuming no ad/promotion fees were added. So their effective fee % on that $100 card is actually 15.24%. Obviously that varies per card and for sales in different states, as some charge sales tax on the total including shipping and some do not (mine does not). Calculating this way is much more cumbersome and harder to summarize in this kind of video, but ultimately, selling on Ebay would have netted you even less, so you came out even better! Hope I explained that well enough. Again, really enjoyed the breakdown and dream of finding a collection such as this! Thanks!

Absolutely brilliant breakdown, lads! Really enjoyed it, and you covered all the pros and cons very well. The most precious thing of all - and something we cannot recover - is time. To make a profit above and beyond Ebay & trade shows, whilst saving precious time, is the dream. You both achieved it. WELL DONE! I look forward to a final numbers breakdown of the overall collection on Chris' channel, which I'm sure will be equally as fantastic. I've just got one question: What are Greg Morris' payment terms? Is it 30 days until they pay you out? Or longer? That is the only draw-back (which is obviously off-set by its many advantages you mention). 👍
@BaseballCollector11 күн бұрын
@@Johndeplume. Actually they pay quick. Two payments 75% at first and 25% a few weeks later

I think comping vintage is next to impossible because it’s all eye appeal. Vintage collectors are smarter and buy the card, not the grade (most do). I actually think grading is irrelevant for vintage as i would have no problem buying ‘authenticated only’ cards if that became the standard in the hobby. That Moe Berg sold for more than anticipated because it a beautiful centered card. The PSA 2 (by eye appeal) is a ridiculous grade if you are going solely on eye appeal. I have some great PSA 2 vintage cards that i would never think of trading up for a higher grade.

Chris said his time is very valuble in selling cards… I agree selling mass cards is hard… but yeah as my comment below says I sell a few cards here and there and in person at a parking lot via cragslist really is the best way for me… even some big cards in the 5 figures has happened and no fees...

Can you guys comment on the amount of taxes you have to pay on your sales? Do you receive a 1099 from Greg Morris, similar to what eBay does when you meet a certain threshold? A potential benefit of selling at a show is paying less in taxes?

With all due respect to Jeremy and Chris' auction house, you'd have to assume to maximise eyeballs and money. A fledgling auction house isn't likely to achieve the results of an established auction house, with key hitters on their 'rolodex'.

I have watched the videos on what you and partners call the Grail Collection. I don’t understand that you and partners can say that. If it was a grail collection it would include the grail 1953 Topps Mantle after all that’s a the grail card for every collectors past, present and future. It should be called the Grail Collection minus the real grail card the 1952 Topps Mantle. You’re misleading your subscribers. Incidentally I didn’t see a Ty Cobb, Cy Young, Shoeless Joe Jackson or Babe Ruth RC cards. It kills me when people same something like you and your partners are calling a Grail Collection and it’s not. It’s a grail collection to you all so you can get the most money out of you can. There’s a sucker born every day and they will buy into this horse sh*t.

Obviously you didn't watch all of the videos about this collection. There were Cobb, Cy Young, and Walter Johnson cards. There were 6 Babe Ruth cards. Multiple Lou Gehrig cards including one that was my grail card. Grail Collection simply refers to the fact that this collection contained a ton of cards that many collectors might consider grails for their collection.
