19 years ago and at that exact location, my journey began. The sound of the planes taking off was one of the motivations I had. I couldn't wait to get the hell out of there but it was all worth it....OOOORAH

@@KillerKlown318 That's moto dude!! I got Company High Shooter, 241. I thought The Reaper was bad until I got to SOI and had to do Recon Ridge, Old Smokey and Mount Mother F***er.
@KillerKlown3182 жыл бұрын
@@metalhead9315 I shot Sharpshooter (227) . I never got to do Mount Mutherfucker. The Reaper was cool.until the last steep part and that was only because we had one recruit falling back, the drill instructors were telling us to leave him behind and I refused.

@@KillerKlown318 That's good shit right there. I remember all of us literally pushing and pulling each other up that final part just so our platoon stayed whole. Man...I miss those days.

As I watch this short film brings back a lot of memories of my time in parris Island I was a scared 17 year old kid but when I left I was a marine. (Sgt R J cieszynski) 1967 to 1970

Things have changed in the last 50+ years. The front of receiving barracks had yellow footprints but only four wide and seven or eight deep. They faced the barracks and led into the front hatch. The rear of receiving barracks had yellow dots and you could fit an entire platoon onto them. You faced toward the south end of receiving barracks and were taken inside via the back hatch off of your right shoulder. The red bins were to the north and you went down a red brick deck. The staff that greeted you all wore "C" dress blues except for some of the non-recruit handling staff. They did the paperwork, issued your first clothing, barbers, etc. The attitude of drill instructors and receiving barracks staff hasn't changed much in that time. Still as nasty as ever.

Watching that video made me realize something. We were only on those yellow foot prints for a couple of minutes, yet I have never met a MARINE that did not remember them as if we had stood on them for a year. And at the time, it seemed like a feaking year. Memories fade with time, but EVERY MARINE remembers the yellow foot prints.

I understand. I went and got a short flattop haircut a couple of days before I left for PI. Of course, they did it all over again. I think the objective is to take away as much civvy stuff as they can, project total control, and project that you don't know anything and that you can't do anything right. That worked well with me.

Yes! Lots of flashbacks. I noticed he is an SDI and a Sgt E5. He's on a fast track for SSGT, being an SDI. We were picked up at the Yamassee train station and did drop/pick up bag drill for quite a while before leaving for PI. I took time to look over to my right at a DI, having only seen Jack Webb in the DI and wanted to see a real one. I had no less than two DIs come at me from both sides, yelling and screaming at me for moving my eyeballs. That was my very first encounter.

We took a train from LAX to San Diego. We waited and waited and a military green school bus showed up with a Lance Corporal and he said get on board. As we drove through the gate he said welcome to Disneyland girls. As soon as the bus stopped all hell broke loose with three no neck DI"s It shocked my system so much I didn't take a crap for 7 days.

Funny how people think DI's are assholes or needlessly mean but fail to realize they are preparing people fresh off the street for combat. Cannot have people talking back and asking questions on the line. Zero Military exp speaking but it should be and is not common knowledge. Or maybe people just watch too many movies..

at 2:35 that plane was a friendly reminder, that they are stuck there and there's no leaving boot camp lol. i bet some of these guys are regretting joining the marines.

the majority of the recruits regret getting there the first week, especially after the "Black Friday" (not the friday after thanksgiving) its normal, but everyone just disregard that regret. I actually regretted the first night I went to sleep, lol, but every friday when I heard the graduation parade, I always counted the weeks for graduation and thought, "in 13...12...11...10...9... (and so on) weeks I will be there on the parade deck"

back in the late 60s the DI would say you have 10 seconds to leave the bus and i'm standing in the door--many went out of the windows--guess things have changed until the cameras stop rolling then it is "fun time" no real abuse but physical training use to discipline and "no one "ever gets hurt" well not badly
