The day after watching this presentation, which I had seen on one of your previous videos, I was confronted with this exact scenario. Travelling a safe distance from the vehicle in front, an elderly driver in a beaten up old car plodding along in the fast lane, suddenly changed into my lane just as my front wheel was level with his rear bumper. I have no doubt that attention to your weekly safety videos has helped me to create a strong awareness and to appreciate the need to anticipate what “might” happen. Thanks to your advice and the power and agility of my brand new Bonneville Speedmaster I was able to swerve and accelerate out of trouble. Richard, Central Coast, NSW, Australia.

Kevin, thanks for Another great training video. Real life stories with the skills to avoid them are the best. I agree with the other post, why would anyone dislike this. I have an opinion, but I’ll keep my mouth shut.

Kevin, I have heard you share these incidents and lessons learned previously, and I must say the message can never be over played. You taking ownership for your part is what makes you a better person, and you sharing that information with me makes me a better person, as I will pass it along. The bottom line, we can only control our actions and reactions to any event in life. And as you said, you only rise to your level of training is a powerful awareness, we must always seek out opportunities to continue learning and re-enforce skills. Your messages are very impactful, keep up the work, and enjoy your new toy box. I play messages like this one over and over and apply them to current events in my own life not just motorcycle riding. Thank you!

Thanks again Kevin. As someone once said - a wise man learns from his mistakes, a wiser man learns from the mistakes of others. To analyse your mistakes and pass on to others is I think a special and generous skill, thank you. Just a thought - in your second scenario your reading off the road, and your analysis of the shadow through the trees (even when unsure) probably gave you all of your four foot clearance and some 😊 All the best and have a great New Year

Practicing the skills I have learned from your videos and forums has saved me from several accidents. Traffic here in Orlando is some of the worst I’ve ever seen. I have driven in Dallas/Fort Worth, Atlanta, Chicago,St Louis, Vegas, ect. Orlando takes the cake 🎂 I am thankful that I found your channel and More than happy to support your channel on Patreon. Looks great Kevin. Our big motorcycle supershow as it's called, is first weekend in January, in Toronto, so end of next week. So far, we don't have any snow accumulation this year, but as bad luck is usually first, we will likely have a snowstorm on that weekend that will stop me from traveling to the show. Should the positive luck be on my side I will likely go up there one of the days to get my fill and smell of a gigantic motorcycle show. I've only been able to go twice in 5 years and even though working this show all the hours that takes over 5 days including setup and tear-downs I really miss it. It's great to be around so many people that love or have interest in motorcycling. I really love interacting and exchanging information and ideas with other enthusiasts like myself. Everybody has something to contribute. I'm working on my plan again this year to possibly leave Canada and travel South in I travel trailer for 6 months to get away from this terrible winter up here. And Texas is where I intend to spend the coldest part of winter around Corpus Christi where it should be the warmest possible place to be , and if they have this show next year in Dallas I would definitely make it over there and have a look-see.

Good video Kevin. One of the things that I do, and it is completely within my control is to not commute on my motorcycle, because 50% of traffic accidents happen on the way to and from work and to nor ride in the city if I can avoid it. I do have an advantage in that I'm 10 miles from the closest city but even when I lived in Detroit I tried to find less used routes to get where I needed to go and not at rush hour. Just my thoughts. Cheers.

Johnny Lightning; You could eliminate the risk completely if you just stopped riding all together. I ride year round here in TN and sometimes the traffic is extremely bad. That's when I have to be more vigilant than I usually am. If I stopped riding because of the inherent risk involved, I would be depriving myself of something I have loved doing since I was 8 years old (now 61). Don't let fear stop you, improve your level of riding skill until you are confident in your abilities to ride to work, etc.

It's like folks say "most accidents happen within 10 miles from home". That's because 90% of the drive is probably to and from work. Rather than avoid the commute, use it as an opportunity to gain additional experience, esp. dealing with other vehicles. Avoiding risk is one way to go, but mitigating the risk through experience and practice is another.

Kevin, another great vid. My hope is that someone who watches this who has had an accident, thinks back to it an analyzes it as you did yours AND THEN decides to use that important knowledge, become an instructor and shares that knowledge to further the word on motorcycle safety.

Thanks for sharing that story. I never knew that's what got you started as an instructor. That's a great reason to be an instructor. I'm glad you didn't give up something you love because of an accident. I didn't know you no londet have your tenaray. Can you share your reasons for selling it? Kevin, Just a comment You spend so much of the beginning of your post with what I call nonsense talk. The MEAT of your posts are so important. I personally save EVERY one of them. I too, am a very avid motorcycle rider. No offense, but I love your posts. Very informative. I just have to fast forward through the first third of them. Food for thought Steven in Oakland Ca

The older rider does need the thoughtful discussions. Often a 58+ rider picks up a bike as office life winds down or gets boring. Kids are mostly out. Driving is dull in the genericars and 35 years commuting has killed four wheel pleasure. There are a lot of senior accidents in the first two years. Then you also get the 40year old mid life crisis buyers. MC Rider, Kevin, seems to lean to cruisers, as he himself went from adventure street commuter bike to cruiser. The slow speed skills classes and ride like a cop competitions are about handling those 900lb beasts with brain over brawn. His advice on street speed skills at speeds above 35 are terrific. Something missing in the MSF courses. It is talked about, but every student is only really listening to the parking lot navigation of the moment. I think he has a niche. The adrenalin junkies have a niche (many) and the youth market of logical riders seems to have a niche with Ryan 9, however he does more product shows than safety shows today.
