I left the northerrn suburbs of Chicago to go to Oregon. Being late fall some roads were closed so I decided to go a little farther south to go west. Well, like all good roadtrips, I found a shortcut to Oregon by way of Key West.... still haven't made it to Oregon tho!!! 👍😂

Love your videos!. I've learned a lot from them. your response to the question "Where are you going?" "That way", reminded me of a quote on the difference between young riders and old ones (like me). "Young riders pick a destination, old riders pick a direction."

Timing is spot on for this rider. Planning a week long trip in sept. for the “Bring It Home” Harley record ride. Great advice and I can see the value of thinking and planning what to pack and where to pack for safety and handling. Thanks Kevin

Thanks Kevin. An earlier viewer mentioned a side bag cover coming un-latched. It happened to me once too. Now I ALWAYS lock my latches before moving. I do like the lid organizers which I added. I used black marker to write next to pockets items that I might need in a hurry....tire pressure gauge, extra bulb, lighter , flashlight. J K in Houston

I like your new add on, huge savings. Usually anything that says Harley, or is specifically made for a Harley, is always so much more expensive. One of the MANY reasons that I will not by another Harley. Your bike, other than it is a Harley, is looking awesome. After riding for a touch over 50 years now, I don't think that I have ever disagreed with any of your safety comments. Keep up the great work, Kevin.

This is great Kevin! I'm hoping to make a couple road trips this summer on my 2016 Victory Cross Country Tour. My first will be from Northern Mich (my home) to southern Kentucky to see the Ark Encounter and a bunch of other sites. I plan on camping in a tent and spending about a week to do it. As this is my first time going on an overnight trip on motorcycle, I'm really looking forward to you doing this series. Thanks much!

I have 3 hard cases too. I don't go on long tours, but I like to use my bike for shopping and such, and the top case is also a handy place to store the helmet. Another benefit of hard side cases is, they leave space for your foot if you go down.

Hey Kevin, I found some saddle bag liner bags that have a zipper and handles from J.P.cycle. They come in different shapes to fit your bags. Work great, easy to grab when you stop at a motel. Rain suits are a must on long trips too.

That is a very nice top trunk. I travel as light as I can force myself too and still end up having some items I never needed. Not talking about tools or safety gear, by rather extra cloths and such. I don't mind stopping at a wallyworld store and buying a change of simple cloths. Dirty laundry can be placed with any other item you buy as souvenirs into a USPO "Anything Goes" box and sent home -- that really saves bulk and weight. Enjoy your trip; "Ya never know where yer go'n until ya get there" and that is a good thing!

Thanks Kevin, it looks like a really nice peice, for the price you get a lot. I have an '08 Road King Classic, so when I got my HD Tour Pak I got it leather to match my saddle bags, but I had to pay quite a bit extra for all the equipment I needed to complete the install.

It's a great ride, and in the summer months, even as far north as WA (my area) has lots to offer. Oregon coast my favorite. CA was expensive and mucho traffic.

I have a Fat Bob 114 that I am going to ride from California to Texas to visit family. The exhaust pipes on my bike angle upward so I’m limited on saddle bags. I bought the Tour Master Select Saddle bags and Tail Bag. These will go on passenger seat. I am also getting a tank bag by tour master. Finally on the rear Rack, I installed a mount to hold two - one gallon Rotopax gas containers. This is my first long haul on a bike.

Very nice, I bought and after market king touring pack the 16 ST that my dad and I shared for 1/3 the price of the HD. You really have too look at it before you realize it's not HD. But I got tired of sharing a bike so recently purchased 18 Limited and I'm waiting for my wife to give me a hall pass so I can head out with particular place to go.. Be safe and thanks for the videos..

Kevin. I have the H-D king pack that came with my Street Glide (bought used). The tail lights of the 14’ Street Glide are sad to say the least. I acquired a set of take off LED lights from an Ultra tour pack. Gonna add those lights for back and side. Quite a few on E bay (FYI). Looks like bad dad.com has a harness. Hope to increase visibility when the TP is installed, especially when the Mrs is on back. Are you gonna leave the TP on for daily commuting?

My Triumph Trophy SE is equipped with both the factory panniers and top box, and I added the factory tank bag for stuff I want to access without dismounting the bike. But the best purchase I’ve made for longer trips has to be my Motofizz bag that straps onto the pillion seat. It’s the most versatile, useful, and well made thing I’ve ever bought. If you haven’t heard of it, I think it’s only sold in the US by Aerostich, at least that’s the only place I could find it. Pricey, yup. But after riding with one, I bought another for the wife’s bike. And no, I’m not affiliated with either Motofizz or Aerostich. And, by the way, great job!

Thanks for this video. As a newbie who mostly commutes on a small bike, I’m planning to add some storage, probably side bags, but I worry about the security of those in the city. I like the hard side and top bag idea as an option. Especially as a place to secure my helmet. I don’t trust those cable locks when leaving the bike for 8+ hours in a parking lot.

Great video, Kevin. This is very important info re keeping weight down low. My cousin, who rides an Ultra, has an apparatus that attaches to his bike and carries their heavier luggage on a “sled” of sorts that bolts to his trailer hitch on the bike. It’s just inches off the ground. 🏍👍🏍

I said I would never get a bagger. And I did. Then I said I would never get a dresser. And I did. Once you have the bags and tour pack you don't care if the bike looks cool. And amazingly, the Electra Glide Ultra Classic rides and handles very well. Regarding the tour pack, I purchased an aftermarket version (HogWorkz) along with the detachable hardware for my bagger. Once it was on I never took it off. Now that I have the EG with the factory tour pack I can tell you with absolute certainty the factory tour pack is much better quality than the aftermarket version and worth the extra money.

Good info but a week late for me Kevin. Just returned from an 8 day ride up the pacific coast highway from the high desert of southern Ca to Portland Or on my 2011 Road King. I too just pointed in a direction and rode. This was my first extended road trip ever on a motorcycle. I spent months preparing the Road King with a front fairing, lowers, and a tour pack. Common sense led me to keep the heaviest weight low and even side to side. Tools and a compact battery jumper are must. I packed camping and rain gear but never had to use it. Brought an action camera along but had no experience using it until I left. Took some video and I’m attempting to edit it. Hope to post a short video when it’s done. Could be a while though, this video stuff is new to me. Thanks again for all you do.

I'm thinking about hanging up the reflective vest. I moved from a harley to a KLR650 and decided I needed to start being a bit safer. I now where a jacket and a full face helmet and also a bright yellow reflective vest for my commute of about 30-45 minutes. Since I started wearing the vest I swear I have had more traffic incidents as if people are thinking that since I have a vest on I'm easy pickins. I have never been cut off as much as I have been in the past few months. A guy this morning almost ran me over trying not to let me merge onto the highway. I don't seem to get this treatment when I just have on my black Jacket. Am I imagining this?
@TheRealUyi6 жыл бұрын
how visible and audible is your klr650 vs your harley? harley riders are normally hard to miss. In my opinion when you wear no helmet or a half helmet you're more noticeable too because your facial features are visible and humans tend to notice other human faces. Not that I'd ever advocate for wearing no/half helmets, just might be a reason for what you're experiencing.
