You should know I come back and rewatch this video like once every few months. It is such a powerful and well done John character study. So painful and thoughtful and beautifully observed. So many moments of it make me cry--the "you torture yourself every day john" before the flash to him and Rodney standing close, him looking away, a voyeuristic shot from the hallway, like intruding on a private moment. The "truth dressed up in lies" moment where he salutes with mock enthusiasm and it doesn't reach his eyes...there are so many underrated subtle mcshep moments in here too. I feel like videos always hit on the big stuff (the shrine) but rarely do I see that moment where John makes the face in brotherhood while Rodney and that woman are flirting...or when his whole expression goes cold the minute Keller looks away in Seed. This is just so carefully put together, such a perfect examination of all the quieter moments of John's long standing, long suffering devotion to Rodney. Feelings he's ruled by but runs from, because their magnitude would kill them both. Thank you for this video, I cant even begin to describe how much I love it or how deeply comforting it is for me.

SG1 can & did do alright without either Daniel or O'Neil. SGA could not have continued without Sheppard or McKay. They took the Odd Couple idea to the next level & in my opinion made this show memorable because of it.
@randommindtime64277 жыл бұрын
You know, I have to agree with this. I forgot that SG1 was without Daniel and Jack for periods of time and that it was still pretty good. I would have just been broken hearted if either Sheppard or Rodney had to leave SGA. It really would have made me stop watching.

Oh my GOSH, okay, so until about a week ago I barely even knew the core concept of Stargate, but I've kind of accidentally stumbled into some Stargate fic recently and so I've been watching a few fanvids to get an idea of the characters on screen that those words are describing (while still never having seen a single episode), which is all to say that I have EXTREMELY limited knowledge of the subject material, and yet, and YET, this fanvid still manages to hit me right in the center of my heart even as a complete noob randomly popping in on a fandom I don't know. Your editing with the lyrics conveys such a clear story and so many feelings (so! many! feelings!) and I am amazed and blown away at how that works, because I had zero prior emotional investment in these characters whatsoever, holy shit. This is some seriously wonderful work and shows amazing skill and a great love for the subjects and I am deeply impressed. ❤

Update: I just thought I should add that over the past five days, I've watched two seasons of SGA and it's probably about 90% because of this video that I kept coming back to and got me infinitely curious, so thank you, omg, because this show is so good and exactly my kind of thing.

You have NO IDEA how much I love this. The music made me think of Firefly a bit, but with this footage, it forces you to realize just how much darker the Atlantis series was, but in a good way. There was so much uncertainty and more danger with their situation versus SG1. SG1 had a safe homebase, pretty much, but Atlantis didn't, and all of this footage shows not only how dangerous and risky it was, but also how amazing the people were who decided to take it on. Especially John and Rodney!

Somewhere, in some alternate universe (or in some fanfic), there is a beautiful shared scene with the Mckay-Shep couple and the Daniel-O'neill couple all doing something together. I honestly have no idea the amount of talent and genius would be needed to really properly pull something like that off and make it as awesome as something like that should be. I mean, the plot would have to be really beyond dark and gritty, and the ending would have everyone tearing their hair out because a story like that just could not be allowed to end on a happy note. It would have to be so bittersweet, like this complex mix of Neon Genesis Evangelion and every song you've ever put into these AMV's as the feeling

hey! I've watched this and the rest of your videos on mcshep multiple times now, and I've gotta say I love them very-very much. the editing, the pacing and the content you chose to put in them are all very, very high quality. my favorite moments in this one are 2:56 (because the line of the song and the quiet moment that fallows are perfect) and 3:07 (because that gesture and the "lies" lyric is some deep character discovery shit contained in one second and I love it.) also your music taste is cool. are there more songs like this and 'can't pretend' that you associate with these two?
@1997Aalisse7 жыл бұрын
also I went through your tumblr a bit (I'm not stalking, honest) and I find it kinda funny that you've reblogged my mcshep art that I've done a couple of weeks ago. the one where rodney kisses john and it's all watercolor-y and sketchy.

First: Thank you!! I'm glad you like my videos and that those particular moments you mentioned stood out so well. I still think this is my favorite video out of everything I've done so it makes me really happy when I see others enjoying it, too. Second: I remember that drawing! It's such a nice moment you captured between them. I saw your comment yesterday but didn't have a chance to respond but I recognize your name from Tumblr now, too. Don't worry about "stalking" - I do it to people, too haha I don't see a lot of people drawing these Space Idiots a lot anymore, so it always really tickles me when I see new art (and really cute art like yours, too!) Keep it up - I'd love to see more. Third: I have a playlist on Spotify of stuff that reminds me of these two. Some of it's pop-ish, like "True Love" by P!nk or "Army" by Ellie Goulding, but there's also "I Found" by Amber Run or "The Weight of Us" by Sander Bohlke. Though my latest McShep song is "Ocean Eyes" by Billie Ellish. I think I have the list shared on my Tumblr if you can find it there. (I'm busy with work a lot these days but feel free to send me a message to chat!)
