To be honest using assets is a win-win situation for everyone. You get to use the creator's asset for your project while the creator gets exposure. There are many awesome asset creators I would never have found out about if it wasn't for their work being used by other people. The only problem I can see is when people use an asset without permission and don't give credit to the original creator.

I make all the assets and code by myself most of the time while making scratch projects, and when I do use assets from other creators (with proper credit), It doesn't feel genuine for me in my opinion.
