Hi Joe. I think your MCW is not thinned enough. It looks like it's got a bit of orange peel. Try thinning it a bit more until it starts spraying nicely. Metallic are also a problem as the flakes can block the nozzle. I almost always use SMS Premium Acrylics for most of my painting. For high gloss finishes I always put a bit of their leveller in the paint to slow the drying a little bit. It will spray nicely straight from the bottle as it is already quite thin. I wouldn't steer clear of acrylics just based on your experience with the Createx. But I would steer clear of water based acrylics. I used some water based Vallejo on one kit and the paint was very soft even after it had dried for a long time. With the SMS paints, they dry very fast as they are mostly toluene and acetone based. They will be touch dry in 20 seconds and you can put plenty of coats on in one session. Most of the time I can completely cover the car in one session and only do more coats if I get a bit of dust in the paint and sanding it makes it a bit thin. If it comes out good on the first session I just give it a few coats of SMS super clear, again with leveller added. When painting metallics over a gloss black base, usually I want a thin coat to get the best effect. I screw in the trigger stop to avoid getting full pressure, but some of them need a bit more needle travel to prevent blockages. It's all a matter of experimentation.

This is your brain, this is your brain working on models. You can always mix more of the paint and thinner / reducer and place in an empty jar, put the hardener in it later. I always mix some touch up paint / have some extra. Look at getting some Mr. Color leveling thinner...it works wonders with MCW paints. You'll want to put the hardeners in a new empty Tamiya jar...I learned that from Kreg. I spray my MCW with .5 needle. 1:1 with thinner, spray about 6-8 inches out. 18-20pi. I know we all do different things though. What works for 1 may not work for another. 5th edit.... Check the tip/cap of your gun. I dip mine in a little lacquer thinner to help clean the cap and swab with a q-tip. I spray primer, paint, clear etc...cleaning with thinner between uses. When I am done with all work, model is done, I disassemble and clean. If you add another gun, get the Gaahleri BarbatosRex gun....and .5 Fan cap.

Well said my friend and yes that air brush is awesome with the .07 needle for spraying metallic paint... That was the reason I bought mine and I find it is a awesome addition to my rack... Lol LLAP 🖖

Thanks Dustin great information. I do have the leveling thinner on the way from hobby nut. I think I got the airbrush cleaned much better after the video. I was actually still getting primer out of it after spraying color.

If you are going to continue to use MCW paints, i think you should follow Lamb Chops advice. I believe he nailed it. David for a good job too. 😎👍

I have a couple of tips for you. First, get some plastic spoons for testing your paints, mixtures, pressures, etc… Second, I think you need a better airbrush. I saw inconsistencies in the pattern and “spitting”, which could be too much pressure, but even with pressure cranked up it should have a consistent cone. A double action airbrush with a .4-.5mm needle will give you greater control and higher quality gives you more consistency. A compressor with a tank will help too. Third, clean your spraybooth filter more often. With what I see in this video it’s probably down 1/3 of its capacity and no hobby is worth your health. Always wear a proper respirator too. Forth, if you’re spraying metallics you’ll almost always have a slightly rough surface, they polish best with a clearcoat. If you’re painting solid colors, skip the clear coat and just cut and polish the paint. You’ll have a much more accurate finish. Have fun with it, no matter what!

Well Jue, if the needle/ tip is not clogged then it is something else... What size is the needle? Metallic takes a .05 or better and yes it can still be too thick. Metallic is a but hard to paint with as the flakes tend to clog the needle up... Keep going Joe, you will get it. Also you will need at least 20 lbs plus on the on the air pressure. All paint should be milk thin as a rule... I switch between paints and primers all the time with a lacquer cleaning and a full tear down at the end... That is what works for Me... 😁 LLAP 🖖

In the video it looks grainy. Are you using a leveling thinner. I'm using Mr color leveling thinner 400.Look at the photo I sent you Of the black 71 mustang for and example on how the paint should lay down. The Model master paint I use, I've been told is about the same as MCW. I hope thing work out.
@modelbuildingcorner3 ай бұрын
I've got the Mr color leveling thinner ordered. On this I just used Tamiya for now.
@JHartModelworks3 ай бұрын
A .3mm is all i use, i have never had an issue with spraying a metallic unless it's was some junk 1:1 car paint with massive flake. Model grade paints like splash, scale finishes, mcw should not have an issue with a 0 3. I can't tell you much about mcw enamels as i hate enamel paint. It's sounds like it's not thin enough. The lacquers cover and are thinned and ready to spray if i remember.
@modelbuildingcorner3 ай бұрын
Awesome thanks Justin. I think your right on the MCW lacquers are ready to spray. After a full breakdown after spraying the MCW I was still pulling out the AK primer. I am getting another airbrush for just lacquer and enamels. And keeping the current brush as a primer only.
@JHartModelworks3 ай бұрын
@Joethemodelbuilder I'm not sure about the ak. I know ump and ammo 1 shot are just re-branded stynelrez. I used to use it all the time, and after a few months, it would start forming clumps that clogged the brush up. I switched to a lacquer based priner abd have been very happy with it. Best of luck with the paint. It looks like a really nice color.

@kevinsmith76973 ай бұрын
Do you strain your paint ? Most paint is dirt ridden! That will stop all the airbrush fun in a second! Few drops extra thinner doesn’t hurt either. I strain all paint except primer. but we sand primer anyways! Usually spray @ 15-20 psi with trigger pushed. 😎🫡🇺🇸
