In this lesson we are going to learn Fusion 360 or we are going to die trying. I have struggled with autocad product for 20 years, and finally decided I would learn them or die trying. If you are here, perhaps you have struggled with them as well. I have figured out how to make things work, and am going to show you the simple step by step process for successfully designing in Fusion 360. Get a cup of coffee, fasten your seat belts and lets learn Fusion 360.

I have to say, your style of teaching is much more favorable than other tutorials I've watched. They jump right into making a 3d model, but you break down everything you do and explain the whys. I've tried sketchup, 3ds max, blender, and never seemed to understand 3d software. The newer version of 360 is much different than yours, but it's been a huge help to me nonetheless.

I've taken SEVERAL Fusion 360 courses, prior to this one. I finished each one confused and not knowing how to really begin a design. This is the first course which really made sense and gave me the basics to create a design. Well Done !

Paul, I am upside down from you! I am a 75 year old mechanical engineer who spent so much of my career as an exec that I never got hands-on with CAD. Your Fusion Lesson 1 and 2 are wonderful. They got me out of the frustration loop. I also have an Arduino project on my list (to operate the mechanisms I build from my Fusion Designs). I am going to be following you for a long time. Thank you so much!

Thanks Paul, for this flawless presentation. I have fussed with trying to learn Fusion 360 for two years and even with Fusion's excellent tutorials was still in the dark until I found your videos. You are a master teacher and I deeply appreciate you taking the time to teach Fusion so us old guys (professional designer for over 55 years) can get in on the fun. I never dreamed I would see the day that I could design as fast as I could think and then print it out in 3D. My design life started out ink on mylar and I became a master at it. But in comparison, a complicated design that used to take me 40 hours to conceive, rough in and then ink accurately now takes 40 minutes and can be done with perfect precision. I am so excited.

Thank you, Paul. I've found several good videos of the basics of Fusion, but they all pale compared to yours. I guess being a math teacher was an asset. I'm a 74 yo retired electrical engineer, and like you, I started with Autocad many years ago (Acad 10 - DOS version) and quickly gave up. When I retired, I wanted to learn SketchUp, but for the simple woodworking projects I made, hand drawn sketches were lots faster. Then when I bought my 3D printer, I started using TinkerCad. However, since I wanted something a bit more robust, I decided to give Fusion a chance. So, finding your videos was a God-send as you really had the right approach to help me. Many thanks.

Hello Paul. First let me congratulate you on your teaching style. I had to learn to program PLCs and again after successfully passing a low level micro processor course and achieved a 98% pass only to become totally confused at the next level because the instructor could not teach properly. I had to quit that class and find another. These guys knew what they were trying to teach, and sadly had been at it for some years, but they were only there for the pay check. I was advised not to join those classes but I thought the informant was biased. How right he was. You my friend are so easy to understand. Man you're a breath of fresh air. Congrats once again. Thank you.

I'm an electrical engineer, just learning modern 3D CAD software. I totally agree with many comments - Paul, you are an excellent instructor - teaching the how and why AND when things go wrong, how to get back. ...if things aren't right, how to get them right. I've watched a lot of software how to videos. The worst ones tell you what the software can do without telling you what they're doing while they drive the software. That's useless. The thought process method of instruction is so complete - circumspect. THIS is how instruction is done!!

I have tried on and off to get going with Fusion360 for about 6 months and I was one of the ones that would just hit a wall because I could not find my way around. Paul, You are a lifesaver. I am coming from Acad, and Fusion 360 is foreign. The fact that you take time to show us where the clicks are and to explain what's happening shows you as a natural born teacher. The AutoDesk tutorials go too fast for a complete beginner. The fact that the equivalent of polyline is botched was a big mistake by AutoDesk. I am looking for that workaround now. Hopefully, I will find it in your lessons. I will support you when my startup takes off. ur de best! Brian

Hi Paul, I recently stumbled upon your lessons, and I feel extremely lucky. Best part is the unedited parts where you make mistakes such as forgetting to minimize yourself, or leaving one of the rectangle lines of wrong size. You eventually get to it, but such things teaches us that not everyone is perfect. I just started this series and I am hoping to finish watching all and learning (or die trying :)). Best regards!

Thank you Paul for a very informative and pleasurable lecture. Your teaching method is clear and concise and your are prepared to share your mistakes, which to me is the key to learning the true way to make progress as we all fall into these pitfalls and it’s important to learn how to climb out of them. That’s the reason you are so successful in getting people to stick with it, and make the lessons so exciting and achievable. Many thanks for being so open and not editing out the ruffles which so many do in their KZbin sessions.

I have been tearing my hair out trying to understand it's interface - communicating with various very nice and helpful Autodesk tech support folks in the process. After watching a few of your tutorials I sent an email to Autodesk suggesting they hire you to create their learning materials. Great job Paul. Keep making these videos!

Thanks for the kind words. I actually think it helps to be a little slow at this. The problem is the autodesk folks are such geniuses, they have forgoten what it is like to be a new learner. They are really great guys, but maybe so far advanced they have forgotten how to get people started.

Even people like me who have significant experience in this realm (check out my web site - my name) might have difficulty (give up) when confronting the (currently) non-obvious interface of Fusion 360. I am glad that you are "slow". Your previous frustrations are helping many people use this powerful tool and be more creative. Also, if you don't already do so, before publishing a video, you also might want to pass a draft by few folks like me to help bring them to "absolute perfection". : )

I went through at least five other training sessions on KZbin for Fusion 360. All confused me by jumping around, not realizing that menus may be different, not taking into account moves that might seem basic but if the viewer doesn't know them, they get lost, and many more issues. Some feel they can teach when they really cant. Applaud them for trying, but until I found your 1st lesson last night, I was totally lost. Though I'm on the latest version of Fusion 360, I was able to find where the functions that you used were moved to and see the differences in the version you used compared to the one I'm using. This is the first course that is making sense. Great detail and still very relevant for learning Fusion 360 today. Thank you. Excellent instruction. Especially nice considering I've never had any luck at learning CAD/CAM design software before.

I will admit Fusion 360 is one of the hardest things I ever tried to learn. Seriousely, over 20 years, I tried like a dozen times to learn some version of autocad or another. The thing was, the instructors were all speaking a different language. And, they assumed I already knew that language. Then, many of the tutorials, it was more like the instructor was trying to show off what he could make Fusion do, but not giving me any ability to do what he was showing. These videos of mine are a little stale at this point, and I will do a new series in the next month or so.

I love this video. I’ve watched countless fusion 360 videos memorized a good amount of the functions. Which is fine if I want to copy a beer bottle design while doing a follow along. You on the other hand have so far taught me how to think like an engineer
