Oh my gods, man, you are likely the only person I can find on YT that shows a detailed video of this! Everyone has detailed videos on how to rebuild the carb or clean it, but you're the first that shows what needs to be done. Everyone else just "says" what you need to do, but you're actually showing and pointing.

Just finished cleaning the carbs on my 1984 vf1000f. Its a similar setup and man are the carbs a pain. I had them on and of 7 times before I got it right. Now I'm working on my 1986 v45 this week, I had the exact same problem as you so I bought aluminum fuel tubes from ebay, hopefully the magna goes better haha wish me luck

Practice makes perfect my friend! Good call on the fuel tubes! I’m sure I’ll be upgrading at some point. I have 6 v4s to do so I will most likely be getting those for some of the others.

Ratchet strap worked for me. Literally maxing out the buckle before one of the sides finally popped. Screws on the boots had to be VERY lose before it finally popped.

No problem disassembling! Pulling this cinder block out is the hard part and is the part that is skipped in the video 😂

I liked the video up until you skip the part of how you got the carb out of the frame. I have been trying and as near as I can tell I HAVE to drop the engine by about 1inch to be able to get the carb out. If you did it without having to drop the engine a bit I sure would have loved to have seen it.

@@mcycleshawn Man, I wish you coulda captured that. On mine there was nooo way that was gonna come out. I ended up removing all the engine bolts which dropped it just enough to get it out while scratching the paint on the head as still was real tight.

you are right I pulled the carb and there is no way I can get it out. Probably as u suggest drop engine. How do I do that?! Would it help removing radiator?

@@dutchman3107 I got them out and back in without removing the engine or cooling system…..it would definitely help tho. Guys, am I going to have to do it again to figure this out?

Just digging into my "winter project" '84 700 Magna. Good tips to leave the engine side clamp tight and heat the boots. Mine look kinda crusty. Oh, goody...

Those springs go to the throttle linkage on the carbs - I'm going through this same process myself and actually my carbs were completely missing those two smaller springs so there was a lot of play in the throttle linkage on the carbs preventing all four carb butterflies from opening/closing at the same time so I had to order those smaller springs for mine from Partzilla. I know this video is from several months ago so how did the project go? Did you finish it yet and get the bike running?

Bro, you skipped a lot of parts I needed to see~! Many good aspects, so keep it up. I'd urge you to buy an $8.XX tripod from Goodwill if you can't have a cameraman. (Trust me, I realize it's hard because I have no one who's time I would want to "borrow" just to be a cameraman). I needed to see you pull the assembly out the left side because I've done ALL the prep you showed and it seems like a protruding part of the fuel tube towards the left side of the bike, where the hose connects, is in my way. Another older viddy here mentions moving the radiator forward (I think), but your view showed me nothing of it that should be an obstacle. Thanks for this viddy; I'm sorry if I was a bit discouraging.

I’m still working on better filming as getting the job done is of prime importance to me in the end. I did get the carbs out (I believe it was the right side of the bike but even I need to go back and watch it) without losing the rad or engine. I had a guy arguing with me and telling me it’s impossible and cannot be done. Well, it worked for me. Now I just need to replicate it! Lol thanks for the feedback. I’m always happy to make improvements

Taking does carburator out is no a problem..putting it back thats going to be a pain in the neck..i have a 1985 i replace the booths...is a trick to put it back..the best way with a strap and be carefull not to brake the housing that top part once u brake it make sure that u dont put the carburator and not fix the crack or hole..cause the engine will losse power if there is a air leak..
