yk what? now i have a theory. techno and dream were childhood friends, they both had voices. technos voices weren't strong enough, so they couldn't take forms. dreams voices, on the other hand, very clearly resembled things, so they could take forms. dream cannot survive without the other forms, if one dies, all of them die. not die, fade away. dream is the host of the forms, to be clear. if one of them fades away/dies, all of them fade away, but not die. that was weird tbh.

ok tbh? now i have more to add to this after rewatching it yk how nightmare and dream are the same? for this, dream and techno were having a fight, and nightmare took control of dream. dream, being a good friend, tried his best to take control over nightmare and stop it, but then he realized the only way for techno to live was for him to completely eradicate nightmare. so, he sat there, contemplating it for a while- techno was loved by people, wilbur, tommy [sort of], philza, had a family. dream? he decided that if he was going to go down, he was going to go down a hero and prove for once and for all that he wasn't a villain. so, dreams act was one of sacrifice. the forms? I'm pretty sure they go to the end, where dreamxd is rumoured to live. ahhhh sorry-

AND NOW AFTER REWATCHING IT A 3RD TIME I AM BACK AGAIN! philza is probably dream's adoptive dad, that's how him and techno met. if dream experiences large emotions whilst in another one of his form's bodies, he can take over his own body for a short amount of time, and if it's a large amount of emotion, he can split from his form.
