So, who is flying? Sandal Person in the left seat or cam shown Person in the right seat? Why did the right seated pilot (?) remove his hand from the cyclic but grabs the stick?

In the first demonstration you are watching the chief pilot demonstrate the maneuver. In the second, you are watching me complete the maneuver. Trainer is sitting in the right seat, trainee in the left. You may have seen the chief pilot guard the controls but not actually grab them. Does that answer your question at all?

Never understood shorts and sandals in helicopters. Gosh if you have to put that acft down somewhere you’d want a little protection. Just my 2 cents.

In this video we are flying on an island which is quite frankly very small. If we did need to set down, it would not be difficult to call for assistance or to make it back to a road of any kind for that matter. While I do agree that a nomex flight suit and some actual boots are shoes are always going to be better flying attire, sometimes that just isn't needed. Thanks for your input!

Why bring the throttle back up? Just flare and cushion to get the most out of the eng failure practice!

If it was my helicopter I'd be right there with ya! While I am endorsed and experienced in full down autos, not all the pilots who come out here are. Additionally we are practicing autos to a grass strip rather than paved and it is not an even or level surface.

I saw a Cabri G2 do an auto and the descent rate was so slow it was boring. This one is twice as fast and I think the reason why it looks faster at the bottom all the sudden is caused by the lens or the camera.

Every helicopter is a bit different. The R22 for example will descend in an auto around 1500 feet per minute. The 500 however descends at 2000 to 2500 fpm. If you're not used to the descent rate, it can certainly feel a bit aggressive at first.

Hey Mike, thanks for the input. I'll keep that in mind for the next one! I'm still getting the hang of video editing so there's a bit of trial and error involved.
