I had Holep in 2019 and for me it was a miracle cure. In hospital at 6am and out by 1pm. Depends for a week, pee'd blood or pink urine for 2-3 months, which is normal, then slowly things started to settle down. After 7 months I would call myself near normal, however progress continued for the next 2 years until full normality was reached. After 7 months I lifted a heavy bag of lawn fertilizer and tore something, so no lifting for another 6 months for me, if ever! Would recommend this for sure, it gave me my life back, as I self catheterized for 2 years prior to surgery. Now my bladder has a reduced capacity, but apart from that, life is normal in all aspects.

That was really interesting. Men,thinking about surgery, should look at this video. It will help ease the anxiety and fear that is only natural, when doing an operation such as this.

Brady, can you fill us in on how our HoLEP went? For men whose prostates are too large, it seems like HoLEP or open surgery are the two choices. A new procedure, PAE, is around but it doesn't have a long track record. Hoping you are all well and doing great six months post procedure!

One week in, Depends and house bound. Definitely restored flow. When I feel the urge I have about 5 seconds to get to the bathroom, hence the Depends. Peeing about 1/4 cup at a time, at least every hour, sometimes fifteen minutes. Hasn’t been really smooth or conducive to work with but I have been self cathing for 1 1/2 years and I’m ready to write my name in the snow and keep it off my boots! 53.

Kurt Where did you have it done? You’re out of the catheter now aren’t you? The urgency is normal at this early stage. I’ve considered HOLEP. Too big for TURP and Rezum or PAE take time to show big improvement in flow. HoLEP is supposed to be faster A friend had PVP and he was peeing like a young man immediately after catheter taken out I have good days and nights and bad ones Getting up often at night and not emptying all the way leaves me tired the following day. That lack of sleep adds up Would like to hear more of your story Where did you have it done? Thanks. And I hope you’re doing better each day.

Missoula, MT. 12 days now. Treated for an infection and doing much better. A little more control than week one but still pee frequently. Urine is still a little bloody, but it doesn’t burn now. Regaining a little more control as things are calming down. I’m half way through my second bag of Depends and don’t think I’ll need a third:). No catheters since I pulled the fricken garden hose out that was inserted during surgery. Dang that was big.

Three weeks now, can’t lean in to a fart or i will wet myself. I have a little more control, would just like less frequency. At least I can travel now.

How much of the prostate is removed? I have read that retrograde ejaculation is common and interesting that for the other procedure you indicate that this is a negative side effect but for HoLEP it’s not a big deal. Obviously you are promoting HoLEP…
