We had a guy at work that smelled awful. He wore the same clothes all week. A few of us girls got to together and wrote him a letter.Started off by saying you are such a nice guy but you are offending all your coworkers with your body odor and dirty clothes. You would have friends if you would clean up. We left the note on his car on a friday. On monday he came to work all cleaned up and new clothes. We were in shock. He was the talk of the entire plant. All day long people complimented him. I think he felt like a rock star

@@MariaRegan-rg9ib I believe it. I have known people who have suffered from mental illness and one of the first things I noticed in a couple of them is lack of personal hygiene. My ex next door neighbor, who lived alone, would call me over occasionally to help her with something and her house became VERY disheveled and her personal care really started going downhill. I could see how unkempt she was becoming and the odor was very evident. I think it was depression. She finally moved in with her brother which I'm glad to say helped her a lot.

This reminds me of something an older lady in our community said years ago. Growing up she lived in one of the old houses that was not insulated and they had a wood stove for heat. In the winter time she said they didn't take a lot of baths, they only washed the places that stink. As for your buddy, my brother had a beloved dog that lived 16 or 17 years. He would give him a biscuit each morning. When he gave it to him, the dog would take it to the rug in the kitchen, lay it down, smell it and if he had not put butter on it the dog would bring it back to him. He would put butter on it and then the dog ate it. And he bought a pack of ham for his buddy each week. He got a slice each day.

My question as a nurse is,does he have a necrotic wound . Believe me that’s exactly what it smells like. Yeasty, bad cheese, feces smelling. What was the condition of his clothing. Did he look physically dirty, bad smelly hair or dirty appearance? I’ve come across a lot of unkept persons and distinct odors. You’re right there are many that don’t bathe. . I’ve come across homeless and mental health persons that neglect hygiene.

One of my children got terrible burns from artificial turf at the park. His wounds smelled HORRIBLE as he was healing. It was the worst smell ever. My boss every Monday morning at our meetings would say make sure you take a bath cause you are in the public representing this company. He would still not bathe. We had open enrollment in my office one day, and he was in there. I thought the 2 women who showed up to give the presentation were going to puke for sure. I put a fan by my desk to blow the smell away as much as possible. My boss finally said it directly to him. He didn't bathe but would put on too much men's body spray , it didn't help. It was awful. You should work in a hospital sonetime. One big precursor to people arriving in the ER was a powerful, pungent stench. Not just a little smell but just as MD described. It was like a dead body covered in vomit with fresh sh*t on top of that. Edit: There were some that had no control over that in their situation. Most could have remedied their weapons grade odor, but didn't. You could indeed tell the difference between the two.

We call that the cheese roll stank. Can't clean the "cheese" from between all those rolls...cuz they can't reach, don't care, or can't smell it so they don't do anything about it. Although, to be fair, I've smelled skinny and average-sized people who smell like that too. It's just more common with the big peeps. That particular odor is one of the worst I've ever smelled. I can relate and sympathize. I worked in a call center. I was an assistant manager. We had a man there named Creston. I called him crusty. None of us could get through to the old man. He said he only bathed ONCE A YEAR!!! He stunk horribly. I would spray Lysol all around him…well a lot of us did. He was horrible. Finally they managed to send him on his way. His skin was a jaundiced flaky yellow. Beyond horrible. I always hated when I was stuck next to him. We tried talking to him but never got through. I think it’s mental in some people.

A couple of years ago, my husband and I came across a guy in the local grocery store who apparently was a hunter. He had on a well-worn camouflage jacket that REEKED of dried blood, animal guts, etc. I don’t think he EVER washed that jacket. Needless to say, we stayed as far away from him as possible. When I was in the Navy we had a female Sailor like that. She didn’t bathe or do other basic hygiene including dirty uniforms. Actually had to send her to Captains Mast where she was ordered to bath under the watchful eye of female Master at Arms. Even dirt poor people through history found a way to maintain hygiene even though we think of people from the past being dirty. It also contributes to disease and illness when there is no hygiene.

1986 on an Aircraft Carrier - one of our Deck Sailor's decided his ticket out of the Navy was to stop all personal hygiene. My BM1 came to me and said we had to do something, so we dragged him out of his rack at 0200, strapped him in a Stoke's stretcher and showed him a big bristle brush. Gave him a choice - take a shower or we'll scrub you raw. Seaman H. suddenly had a change of heart & NJP was avoided.

Man oh man! Yes had the same thing to happen to me. I went into our local Dollar Tree. When I opened the door to walk in I thought , “What is that smell?”. I got a few things and left. Next Time I went back the smell about knocked me off my feet as soon as I open the door. Smelled like scorched Ravioli, walked down a couple aisles and went by an employee stocking shelves; and oh my goodness, the smell was coming from her. She was a big girl and she had the whole store stunk up. Quit going there for several weeks.

It reminded me of refugees in Bosnia i had to process as a “peacekeeper” in 1995. They couldn’t wash themselves because the Serbian army destroyed their water and power plants. But here in America there’s really no excuse for deliberately not washing up.

When I worked in banking we had 2 customers that we all dreaded to see walk through the doors. There was a young woman that smelled like a cat litter box. The other customer was a middle aged man that refused to use a toilet or wear a adult diaper. He would literally defecate on himself in public and leave a mess on the floor for us to clean up. The sad thing is that he knew he had to go to the bathroom before letting loose in his pants. We always kept a can of air freshener on the teller line just because of these 2 customers.

The absolute worst experience I have had to date in a used to be $1 Tree was about 6 years ago. I was in the section that has the aluminum baking pans and kitchen items. My young grandchild was with me and at that age they love to reach and pull things to eye level. There was a pan I was interested in and it was just above eye level for me. I tip toed and reached to pick it up and fortunately before I could grab it I noticed something in the pan. Someone had vomited in this pan and sat it nicely back on the shelf. I immediately told the cashier who said, "Welcome to ______ County" (this is a small town in a rural NC county. She told me one day when a customer thought no one was looking they pulled their pants down and pooped right there on the floor in a back isle. Needless to say, I purchased nothing there and quickly left with grand kid in tow. Later I saw the employee taking the pan outside. She deserved a raise that day! It took me about a year before I ever could even walk into that store again and to this day, if an item is not on full display, I don't touch it and have taught my little ones not to reach and touch anything in a store. Yuk to the Max!

I used to transport people to their appointments with doctors, dentists, dialysis centers and I hade two separate people I’d have to pick up in the car (Crown Victoria because they were able to walk). After they exited the vehicle each time, I had to do a thorough sanitizing before anyone else could get in! It was a very disgusting smell of human bacteria (which smells like death) and horrible hygiene. Luckily, being former military, I had a tough sniffer and stomach.

My husband's best friend is an OTR trucker. He, at one point, was also a driver trainer. One of his students smelled SO BAD, he kicked him out of the truck and went to a terminal to have it fumigated. It didn't work. His nasty azz stank had seeped into the mattress. They replaced it but it STILL stunk in there. They fumigated again, this time for a longer period. It was finally tolerable. Our guess, due to his size and knowledge of his various medical conditions (including diabetes), is that he had some open wounds.
